A former Navy SEALs take on Benghazi By Dan O'Shea
Tampa Bay Times ^ | 07/02/2016 | Dan O'Shea

It is ironic that the House Select Committee on Benghazi released its report on the anniversary of Operation Red Wings, the 2005 rescue mission that was the largest one of the Afghanistan conflict. A four-man SEAL reconnaissance team was compromised and ambushed by an overwhelming enemy force. When the "troops-in-contact" call came into headquarters, the mission shifted immediately to a personnel recovery one.

Fellow SEALs boarded Army helicopters and departed on a daylight Quick Reaction Force rescue operation despite the obvious danger and numerous unknowns on the ground. Americans were desperately fighting for their lives, and "leave no man behind" is an operating principle that needs no explanation to anyone in the military.

One rescue helicopter was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade, killing everyone on board including eight Navy SEALs and eight Army air crew. That we lost 16 men trying to save four others was tragic, but it was accepted as how we in the special operations community do business. A reaction force always on standby to launch at a moment's notice is standard operating procedure.

Compare that response to the State Department's on Sept. 11, 2012, in Libya from the Benghazi report timeline and actions taken by the department's leadership.

As initial reports came in on the consulate attack, the priority was obviously not on "leaving no man behind."

10:08 p.m./5:08 a.m. Clinton puts out the first official U.S. government response to the Benghazi attack. "I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. … Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet."

Apparently, a career politician who once touted her national security credentials as making her better prepared to handle the 3 a.m. phone call than anyone as a future commander in chief decided that doing nothing when American lives and our mission in Libya were at stake was her best option.

State’s goal was to cover up the terrorist attack and it’s implication that it had screwed up Lybia for good by deposing Ghaddafi.

Calls for help started almost as soon as the Benghazi attack started. Since nobody could know how long it was going to last, not sending a support force is incomprehensible - unless the decision had already been made by Hillary & Obama to sacrifice the ambassador. I hope Trump saddles up on this issue and rides it hard.

Secretary of State press release:

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack.

This evening, I called Libyan President Magariaf to coordinate additional support to protect Americans in Libya. President Magariaf expressed his condemnation and condolences and pledged his government’s full cooperation.

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.

In light of the events of today, the United States government is working with partner countries around the world to protect our personnel, our missions, and American citizens worldwide.

I think the full press release where the Secretary of State is on record not only saying only one person was killed and described only as an officer and not an ambassador, but goes on for a full paragraph in naming the cause a reaction to degeneration of Islamic beliefs...

Anyone that has been in the Military, and in combat, knows that this smells of week-old dead fish. That Obama and Clinton lied was a known FACT! The Military was waiting for the word that never came because of a Muslim-In-Chief POTUS that didn’t care one iota for the lives of the American Personnel killed in Benghazi.

But how could they know a decision had already been made if there was no foreknowledge of the event?

This is an off-topic comment about Ghaddafi.
The third world sewers, such as Libya, was/is/always will be third world sewers who don't rely on money to better things. We need only look south of our border, all the way down to Tierra del Fuego to KNOW that the military, government, land and banks ARE OWNED 100% by the old wealthy money families. Nothing changes. Whatever money there is in the country, THEY have.
So, no matter WHAT kind of wealth those places acquire through petroleum, natural gas, gold, etc., the "poh-folks" won't get NEAR" any of it. Nothing changes.

Ghaddafi's only redeeming quality, sorta, was that he dressed well. He wore silk scarves from Italy. He probably had GREAT leather products as well. Maybe the wine he drank was Italian, though, being Muslim, he ought NOT to have had any alcoholic beverages.
Sorry, I LOVE Italian products. They are sooo beautiful. The Italian cars are gorgeous; they don't work, but they are gorgeous. Their expertise is in marble, painting and creating beautiful art and beautiful everything. Their lira was always a JOKE.

Something was going on in Benghazi that the administration didn’t want to risk coming to light. The ambassador’s multiple requests for increased security were all denied which may be the key here. Perhaps the thinking was if something went sideways it would be best not to have any living witnesses.

In our culture, in our form of self governance, we accept that people in the military are there to serve. We know that not one individual politician’s life or lifestyle is more important than that of any airman first-class Protecting and defending the office and the guy who holds a high position is part of the job. But in no way is any individual more important than another. That’s democracy. It’s also Judeo Christian

The only good war stories recognize the heroic goodness of the leader who gets this - who understands the sacrifices and never holds himself as more important but preserves himself for the benefit of the mission

Some politicians (in all walks of life) don’t get this

That half the people in this country as it is don’t see this is both fed by the clintons and created by them. They had tapped into this depravity years ago

It’s not a good story. There are no heroes. The clintons have mastered presenting her - and him- as victims disguised as heroes, using the media, government resources and the lure of licentiousness to make it happen

They ARE the heroes of those who want without giving back, so no FBI indictment will deter them.

It will not last. Depravity will always destroy. But what it destroys and puts in its place is what we are now up against

We’re now way past culture wars and on to opposing the ongoing government sanctioned invasion under the guise of anti patriotism, wherever that came from. I have my theories, as do most people paying attention.

The clintons have sold this even to republican leaders. But only the clintons can make it happen. Their followers do not think. They feel. So no amount of truth, exposure, cheating, blatant handing over of our finest to the enemy will pull their voters out of their trance

It could get so much worse. But it could get better. Shakespeare had it figured out 500 years ago. People like this come and go some massively destroy in their wake

Hillary’s motto has always been... “Leave no evidence behind!”

She’s not even good at that.

I assume most here have seen the movie, but if you haven’t, you NEED to. It is way more than a movie. The actual heroes of Benghazi were constantly involved in every aspect of this movie. This is a TRUE STORY! Hillary and Obama should be punished for TREASON in a time of war.

Hillary holds herself above those who were there to serve the State dept and our country. That half the people in this country do as well is what we’re dealing with. Those guys were expendable but they were used abused and thrown to the side. That’s acceptable to the people who don’t see Benghazi for what it was/is. Total abuse of our military and embassy. The enemy knows it and we know it.

It is unacceptable and regardless of corruption at the highest levels and acceptance by any majority it will never go away. It’s like a broken bone that never healed right.

Hillary was pushing the False Video Narrative before the attack...

It is interesting to me that the Cairo embassy tweeted it's first apology for the "video" early in the morning on Sept. 11th 2012 many hours before the attack in Benghazi. Even before the protests in Cairo.

U.S. Embassy in Cairo chooses Sep. 11 to apologize for hurt Muslim feelings; Hours later, angry Egyptian mob storms compound; Embassy stands by its apology; White House disavows it

It is also interesting that no one seems to have brought this up in the Benghazi hearings, any of the other investigations or in the MSM.

Judge Andrew Napolitano has shared an incredible new insight. One matter that's been largely missed in all the recent discussion about Bengazi is the question of what the hell the CIA and State Department were actually doing in Benghazi in the first place.

Turns out, they were arming militias with contraband from Quadaffi's arsenal. A good portion of those arms ended up in the hands of ISIS. That may have been the true purpose of the activity and they sent some guns to friendly muslims as a way to cover their central activity.

As if all that isn't sleazy enough, there was a great deal of money trading hands and lots of war speculators were getting rich. At least one participant turns out to be the spouse of a Republican on the Benghazi committee.

Napolitano concludes that the true purpose of the committee hearings was to conceal information as much as it is to expose Hillary.

I believe Republican scum bags were cashing in after all, that's the Clinton way, to rope people into their schemes by sharing the loot.

Can anybody on this forum point me to more information about this and who the Republican in question might be? I'd sure like to know.

In the meantime, this is a very good report by Judge Napolitano. Read it and weep for America. White washing Hillary

And .. the real issue was that the CIA was there hunting for the former dictator’s cache of weapons (which we had supplied to the former dictator) .. some of whom had been discovered in another country .. and there was talk that WE were running those guns into Syria.

In fact, there was a Turkish diplomat at the compound that night who was meeting with Stevens (thus the reason for Stevens to be there). It was said that the Turkish man was the arbitrator for the purchase of the Libyan weapons.

And .. the attack didn’t occur until after the Turkish man left .. causing me to always wonder if the Turkish man had something to do with the attack. Of course, nothing has ever been said about that coincidence (and I believe there is no such thing as a coincidence).

For me, the reason all of the Obama admin didn’t want anything to do with Benghazi was to hide the gun running to Syria.
