Naval commander surrendered to Iran to protect nuclear deal
American Thinker ^ | July 2, 2016 | Rick Moran

The commander in charge of the naval vessels that strayed into Iranian waters and were captured last January surrendered his command because he thought his sailors would be safe because Iran "wanted the nuclear deal to go through."

This is only one of several revelations found in the 170-page report issued by the Pentagon about the incident. The commander's name was redacted from the report.

Washington Times:

In an interview with investigators looking into the January incident, the commander said he surrendered the vessels after calculating that his sailors would not be in danger because Iran “wants this nuke deal to go through.”

The interview was one of several stunning revelations in the often scathing 170-page report compiled by Navy investigators, chronicling the chain of events that led to the apprehension and detention of the 10 American sailors by the Iranian military after a pair of U.S. patrol boats drifted into the country’s sovereign waters in the Persian Gulf.

The official 170 page report on the naval vessels captured by Iranians in January is very troubling.

It is still not clear what really happened.

Horsehockey, any naval commander worth his salt would have known the deal was bogus.

An officer of Obama’s Navy. Surrender your command to avoid violence. Not to worry, he will likely get a civilian job in Obama’s government somewhere. What a disgusting, terrible decision. He fails to meet even the expectations of an E-1.

They surrendered to a single 20 foot fishing boat with an AK 47, gave up secrets about the craft they were operating and passwords to their laptops while crying on camera.

Dishonorable discharge for the lot after serving 20 in Leavenworth works.

Any REAL Navy commander would have fired every weapon he had authority over, and instructed his men to fight hand-to-hand if the little Persian pricks tried to capture their vessel.

Cowardice starts at the top (just look at the one in the White Hut!)

One thing is clear.

That commander did not understand his government as well as the Iranians did.

He mistakenly thought the Iranians would be afraid our government would penalize Iran.

I will bet he has a different opinion today.

This is assuming that really was his thinking and not something he dreamed up later to cover his ass.

Translation: The commander of the boats knew better than to do anything that might f up his boss’s nuke deal with the Iranians.

I'd say the commander needs to be relieved of duties if he doesn't know where the enemy's territory lies. With all the hi-tech military grade GPS capabilities we have you shouldn't just be wandering into enemy territory that easily anymore. I think a more plausible scenario is that the Iranians want to build up their navy and Obungo ordered them to do just what they did so they could seize the naval vessels then give them a cosmetic makeover to be part of their own navy. The only truthful art of the commander's statement was that it probably was part of the Iranian Deal.

Poor planning, poor maintenance, poor communication, lack of navigation skills and tools, no situational awareness, poor training, bad execution, no preparation. A complete SNAFU from the start.

Reading from the report it seems like these guys were too incompetent to participate in any kind of conspiracy.

Photos revealed at least 2 M-2 Brownings. They would have cut through the Iranian “charter fishing boats” like a knife through butter. A bevy of M-16s as well. Very disappointed in response...

It's not paranoia if it's real. We now live in Obungo's world. The conspiracies have now become truth. With the Muslim Manchurian Candidate in charge, rest assured that all of your worst suspicions will be confirmed.

Bogus? The Iranians got the money - got the deal - and took Americans for a ride...

Trust me - they got the gold - we got the shaft.
