The penalty for sin has already been paid, so repentance is not “making up for your sin” which is what most people think it is.
Instead it is accepting into one’s life the very singular offer of Christ to bear one’s sins and transform one’s life into total righteousness.
And on THAT, the worldly odds-makers are struck dumb.
I remember an incident from the 50s where a mother put her baby into an oven. To this day the idea of still shocks me. Kind of like the first time I saw a film where a woman was killed, it’s just wrong.
Walking with Christ will do that, because it’s the only way to get close with the Holy Spirit who in turn will shine that light upon what otherwise will look like a bunch of meaningless, self contradictory gobbledygook.
The devil can meditate on it too, but what he comes up with would astound you with horror.
I, too, am doubtful but two things give me hope. First, the American people are basically decent and we will someday see a rebirth of that decency. Secondly, Matt 19:26: but with God all things are possible..
We passed a church in the country today that had this for the message on their sign board. “If you let the devil in your car, next thing you know he’ll be driving.”
Yates had been diagnosed with post partum depression after the birth of an earlier child. Her husband knew she was having problems with motherhood and iirc either her mother or his was supposed to come check on her but was late.
Smith was separated and wanted her kids out of the way so she could pursue a relationship with another man, her boss.
That already happened to humanity...
Ummmm... errrrr... no humans are basically decent, all are sinners who must either be transformed or condemned.
It may be the long legacy of Christianity in America, though, that helps it come to the fore again. Gospel talk is not utterly strange, even if it is not as well accepted at this time.
