New York Times Article on Brexit Leave Voters Chock Full of Condescension

An amazing thing happened during the counting of the Brexit votes in Great Britain. The early returns showed a comfortable lead for those who wished to remain in the European Union. The political establishment must have been breathing a sigh of relief...until the returns from the city of Sunderland, England was announced with a lopsided vote of 61% to leave which put that group ahead. Suddenly it was like the world turned upside down for the pro-EU people and a strong portent of what was to come...the ultimate leave victory.

As a result, many in the media began wondering what was "wrong" with the leave folks, particularly those of Sunderland who upset their glorious vision of a European superstate. Among those in the media seeking answers as to why Sunderland voted so strongly to leave was Kimiko de Freytas-Tamura in a New York Times article just oozing with disgusted condescension towards those voters who ruined her liberal globalist dreams:

I was listening to a professor from 'University' on BBC World Service the morning after the vote. European Studies. He was droning on and on about the 2 or 5 or 10% who voted to leave, but did not fully understand the implications of leaving. In other words, the margin of victory was due to stupid voters. I nearly drove off the road. How many liberals have won elections predominantly because of stupid voters? The left has made a career out of that.

And those who graduate do so by demonstrating academic competence at a seventh-grade level.

Every expansion of the franchise has harmed the Republic.

I doubt anyone here HAS ENOUGH BRAINS to understand the significance of the above, but when you couple it with 60% or so of the older people saying they need to leave, you have a HUGE GENERATIONAL DIVIDE.

That never happened in my family. The wife and me take an opinion, which was definitely for Brexit (in this case), and explain to our kids why this is best. We always tell them to draw their own conclusions, based on their own research, and they virtually always line up with us.

So what is happening in Great Britain? In my opinion, based on the election results, parents there are NOTHING MORE THAN BABYSITTERS (caretakers, to be precise) - others are controlling what their kids think and how those kids vote.

That is VERY SCARY, but it is the goal of the Democrats here.

Well, unless less than 65% of the people agree. And more than 75% of the people come out to vote. And unless Germany disagrees. And unless the pope agrees. And unless the media agrees. And unless the illegal immigrants and violent street gangs agree. Oh, and the mayor of the capital city agrees.

That’s how democracy works !
