Moscow compares an uncertainty following Britain's referendum on its exit from the E.U. to the Soviet Union collapse.
Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Putin's spokesman, stated this on June 27, UNIAN news agency reports.
He adds that Moscow supports the idea of reviving good ties between his country and the U.K.

Obama’s “national media” in this country is comparing it to the collapse of the Soviet Union also. That’s why they are so PO’d about it and are pimping “buyer’s remorse” and the falling stock market so hard.
It is a bit like that period about a year before the USSR’s final demise, when the larger republics were peeling away. For the EU, the death spiral continues.
I failed to see any news coverage of tanks surrounding #10. Did I miss that?
Gotta admit to laughing out loud just at reading the headline!
Does Pooty-poot send Natural Gas to the Isles?
I concur with this assessment.
Comparing Brexit to what Putin regards as the “greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the (last) century”? (That puts the so-called “Great Patriotic War” behind that, for him. But what does one want from a mind that compares socialism to the teachings of Christ?)
That’s a little melodramatic isn’t it?
When the Soviet Union came apart, it seems the republicans tried to improve relations with Russia. It seems the democrats have tried to make them seem like an enemy.
I don’t know why democrats prefer the Russians as an enemy. The current administration treats the Russians horribly. Hillary had the same attitude.
As it’s turned out, the Russians were far more right about what’s currently going on around the world than Obama and Hillary.
Nope, Norway.
They have loads of it and no use for it. So we buy it. :)
The Russians are still embarrassed about their loss of superpower status at the breakup of the USSR.
So it is expected that being the cheap shot artists they are, that they would say neener neener. Nothing a little more vodka won’t cure.
There is no part of the EU that can’t continue by separate side agreement. The EU caused this breakup by out of control bureaucrats losing control of their borders.
Continued bailouts of Greece and Spain are a bitter pill for the UK.
France is likely next and that will be the end of it.
The EU was far from united in its productivity. Many EU countries are full of freeloaders and socialists and expect the UK to subsidize them.
My wife is part western Viking. We are both part central Viking. It’s apparently those eastern Vikings that left problems behind....
I must be something in the water out East. :)
IT.
The peoples of the Soviet Union voted for a democratic and federal Soviet state in a national referendum.
Their elites betrayed them in their own ugly power games.
Breaking it up was an elite project as much as the creation of the EuSSR was an elite project.
In no case, where the people consulted about the outcome. It was imposed on them from above.
Foggy Bottom never got the memo that the Cold War was over.
And it was Clinton with his Kosovo farce that permanently poisoned the well to improving Russian relations with the West.
Absolutely. But possibly more significant, I thought the statement was accurate. It is indeed like the break-up of the Soviet Empire, and for similar reasons: The EU is a smug, ignorant, incompetent, thieving, nosy, tyrannical, Christ-hating, abortion-mandating, bankrupt regime of weenies and pantsuits who over-stepped themselves a couple of miles too far. May their death-spiral be long and painful, so history remembers the lesson.
Demos are warmongers. They like to blame everything on the republicans but it’s the demos who enjoy their invasions.
- demos are the reason we had to go into Afghanistan. They didn’t take care of business when they had the chance.
- demos are the reason we went into Libya.
- demos are primarily the ones that have wanted to invade Syria.
- demos are the ones that act like they cannot get a long with Russia or China.
- Hillary was all in for Iraq.
