Switzerland will propose in talks with Brussels that it should be allowed to protect economic sectors in specific regions against immigration from the European Union, its president told a Sunday newspaper.
Switzerland only has until February to implement a binding 2014 referendum demanding limits on the influx of foreigners to a country whose population is already a quarter foreign.
But a blanket curb on immigration would torpedo a set of interlinked bilateral economic accords under which Switzerland agreed to allow free movement of people.
"Not much can be obtained with a bare figure," Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann told the SonntagsZeitung newspaper in an interview.
He said the aim instead would be to set limits only to protect at-risk sectors in specific regions:
"Let's imagine that in (the Italian-speaking canton) Ticino an above-average number of immigrant taxi drivers is recorded while at the same time many taxi drivers are unemployed."

Yes, lets imagine that. A country that cares about its people wouldn't have to ask what to do.
The whole world is racist!
If I understand this correctly, in February 2014 the Swiss people voted in a binding referendum to limit certain categories of foriegn (EU) workers taking their jobs. And in June 2016, more than two years later, their politicians are still wringing their hands - have done little or nothing to date to implement this democratic decision?
I can see BRexit going along at the same snail pace (though I would dearly like to proven wrong).
Just got back from there, It was fantastic. I didn’t see on hijab the whole time I was there
And therein lies the problem. ...they have to “ask” the elites of Europe in order to protect their country

Isn’t it just great when a country has to/needs to ask an unelected bureaucracy how to run its affairs?
Kind of like the states in the United States are being controlled by various unelected bureaucracies that are not even required to talk out of both sides of their mouths, like the politicians do.
How bout that? Those open minded Swiss
Enough is enough

In Switzerland, unlike in the United States and many other countries, integration into society is more important for naturalization than knowledge of national history or politics, USA Today explained. Candidates for citizenship must prove that they are well assimilated in their communities and respect local customs and traditions.
Imagine that.
