The irony is that Merkel herself put the final nail in the EU coffin. She panicked and badly mishandled a refugee crisis without support from a single PM outside of Germany. The EU, and its associated Shengen Agreement, allowed its members vulnerable to Merkel's poor decision making.

Britain and Germany were the two big sources of “welfare” money for the basket case countries in the EU. Now one of them is gone. How long can Germany afford to prop up those money sucking countries? The only countries considering joining the EU are looking for money themselves. How long can Merkel prop up the EU before there is a popular revolt there? Between the immigration problems and coming economic woes, Germany may get yanked out of the EU as well. Then who will pay the bills?
