Police find giant heroin-selling operation behind secret door inside Brooklyn candy shop
The Gates Candy & Grocery in Bushwick advertises cold soda, ice cream and coffee on its green awning. But behind a secret door disguised as a shelf, cops found a massive heroin-selling hub, according to police.
State Finance Department officers found the door during an inspection for untaxed cigarettes Wednesday night, and on Thursday, cops swarmed the store, located on Gates Ave. at St. Nicholas Ave.
Inside, they found a truckload and a half of drugs and packing material, police said including more than a million glassine envelopes, typically used to package heroin, stuffed into 50 boxes.
Cops found several ziplock bags of suspected heroin, two full barrels of cutting agent, and several blue bags of what police believe to be fentanyl a powerful prescription painkiller often used to cut and enhance heroin, police said. Police took their haul to a lab for testing.
They had a pretty elaborate setup here, said Dep. Inspector Max Tolentino, the 83rd Precinct commander.
Police took two men into custody, and Tolentino said they were likely distributing drugs across Brooklyn and Queens.
with an eye roll in response to reporter's breathless question, "What do you think they were doing with all those drugs?"
Heroin selling? I’ll take Wonder Woman for $500.00
That’s a bit of a shocker. I thought only Pizza Parlors did that.
I guess it became too obvious.
Expect an increase of crimes, shootings, thefts from dealers and visits to hospitals by addicts for symptoms severe withdrawal as heroin will be in short supply for awhile.
Cue the “Candy Man song” as the place raided was a candy store;...”who can take some poppies...process them with care, grind it all to powder and collect a premium fare...the candy man...the candy man can...”

Plot stolen from “Harlem Nights.” lol
Well whaddya expect a candy store to do since Giuliani and D’Amato put an end to the numbers racket.
"Cramsey wrote on Smith's Facebook page early Tuesday morning that he was driving to New York to "do an extraction" of a 16-year-old girl from a hotel room in Brooklyn after an issue involving drugs, The Associated Press reported. Smith replied, "I'm there." It was unclear what, if anything, the weapons had to do with their plans.Cramsey's 20-year-old daughter died from a heroin overdose four months ago Tuesday and he has since attended town hall meetings around the Allentown area to voice his concerns over the drug epidemic, The Morning Call newspaper in Allentown, Pennsylvania, reported.
"This is a plague and we are losing our brightest and most brilliant minds," Cramsey told the newspaper shortly after his daughter was found dead of an overdose with another man inside an Allentown home.
The truck, which had a picture of the U.S. Constitution and the Second Amendment on the side and sported an arrow as an antenna, was impounded after the stop. It's not clear if the truck was owned by Higher Ground Tactical. NBC 4 New York has reached out to the company for comment.
The investigation is ongoing.
Proof positive that candy cigarettes and bubble gum cigars are the gateway drugs to the hard stuff. Sez so on the sign.

I knew someone would play off of the Candy theme.
It’s not like they are bad criminals that will get hard time. After all, there is no mention that any tobacco or large sodas were found.
Candy store must have tried to re-negotiate the payoff schedule with predictable results.
