Family members set to inherit a stockpile of guns and ammunition, worth millions of dollars, plan to destroy the weapons "to send a message," their attorney Daniel Brookman told ABC News today.

"They want these instruments of death to be destroyed," Brookman said. "They don’t want these weapons out on the street."

Jeffrey A. Lash, of Pacific Palisades, California, died last summer of natural causes, but left behind a stockpile of more than 1,500 guns, 6.5 tons of ammunition and nearly $250,000 in cash, according to local ABC-owned station KABC-TV. All of the purchases were legally made, KABC reported.

This bunch does not seem to be playing with a full deck—http://ktla.com/2015/08/27/identity-of-mystery-man-with-palisades-weapons-cache-revealed-as-new-secrets-surface/

Mr. Lash failed to leave a will, this is the result. Distant relatives with little to no appreciation for his property can now dispose of it in ways he would likely find horrific.

What they are doing is legal, not smart nor ethical, particularly if some of those weapons are historically significant.

Damn shame.

:: I’d bet the family does NOT BURN the $250,000 in cash ::

Why of course they won’t. They will need that cash to pay the estate/inheritance taxes on the fair-market value of the weapons.

They’ll likely need each and every dollar, because even that cash will assessed.

It’s private property, so the fools can do what they want.

Crush all you want. We’ll make more.

Are they gonna burn the money too? It could be used to buy more guns if they put it back in circulation!

I was thinking of the term: Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.

Everything you hold in your hand will be held in the hand of another, before being tossed into the trash.

ignorant, brainwashed, disrespectful and wasteful idiots.

You forgot "unarmed".

Talk about stupid. "HEY! I just inherited a massive pile of cash and guns, and I'm going to destroy all the guns!". Wouldn't it be simpler and less dangerous to set the money out on the curb with a "Free to a good home" sign?

"to send a message,"

What? That they're idiots?

It is their property, so they can destroy it if they want.

but I daresay they do not understand the “message” they are sending. LOL

I’d bet the family does NOT BURN the $250,000 in cash.

Didn't that happen in some TV show when the parent went to prison?

That's hilarious. A collector like that, at least half are rare items.

Destroying them drives up the price on the remaining items in that category, and makes those firearm owners wealthier!

Wow, from the simpleton ABC article, I had no idea. The headline is clumsy, but the article’s got a LOT more meat than ABC’s. Thanks for the update!

I sincerely doubt that Jeffrey A. Lash knew that his heirs were all sh!t-for-brains, grandstanding libtards.

What a shame the late Mr. Lash wasn't a FReeper, that would have made a fine addition to the Free Republic Second Amendment Armory Facility. ;)
