I think a Faraday cage may protect against EMP, as long as its a solid sheet of metal...out of tin foil or something like that...
Can be wire mesh too.
Get a metal trash can. Line it with cardboard. Put electronics in. Seal lid well with metal tape leaving no gaps. Do not ground the can.
