Sorry, but that kind of sideways twisting of the record will not restore credibility to yourself in area of this subject matter.
That is, unless you'd care to attribute and credit the Jewish 'religious authorities' such as the scribes & Pharisees, the Sadducee & Sanhedrin with having "invented" Christianity.
Citing scholars the likes of modern-day Bart Erhman Muslim apologists (and atheists too) like to say that the apostle Paul "invented" Christianity.
Did Paul invent Christianity? Personally, I think not, but rather hold view that Paul greatly illuminated what Christ's own bodily sacrifice meant in light of what we know of today as 'Old Testament'.
There really is no such thing as "Protestantism" per se, though the various concepts much discussed during the Reformation can arguably enough be found within the earliest century's Christian Church, from those times long before the one portion of the Church known as the Church of Rome was finally able to browbeat it's own membership into believing that that one portion of the wider, more truly catholic (universal) Church held authority over all others.
So ok. Have it your way then.
The unrelenting intransigence of "the Catholics", of the handful of centuries leading up to and including the 16th Century led to creation of Protest, the kind of which would not allow itself be silenced, even under pain of death.
If you simply insist, the Church of Rome can own that like the Jews were charged by the Roman Empire "Romans" (not to be confused with the Roman Catholic kind of Roman) with the killing of James, brother of the Christ.
According to Philo (if memory serves) that murder was a leading factor in the decision made by 'Rome' to just get it over with and overthrow Jerusalem in entirety, rather than continue periodically putting down revolt after revolt as the Empire had done for some 200 years, or so.

They labour in vain that build it;
