Mounting pressure unlikely to sway Obama on Syria

(AFP) Exasperated US diplomats are in open revolt over Barack Obama's Syria policy, but radical change is unlikely in the twilight of his presidency.

More than 280,000 people have been killed. Millions more have fled their homes.

A relentless drumbeat of cluster bombs, barrel bombs, chemical bombs, murder, rape and torture has turned swaths of Syria to dust.

Humanitarian aid sometimes drips into the beleaguered cities, but when it does, President Bashar al-Assad's regime makes sure "punishment" bombings quickly follow.

"The Assad regime's actions defy all definitions of human decency," said one US official.

There are ominous signs the regime is moving to strangle food production.

In Syria, "you think you've reached the bottom and then you hear a faint scratching from below," another official said.

Through it all, the Obama administration has insisted only Assad - and his Russian and Iranian sponsors - can end the madness.

But privately, even senior diplomats admit that their inability to stop five years of butchery has challenged their conscience....

They have consciences? For once Obambi is right. The fact that senior diplomats don't think so is sufficient proof, if any more is needed. Pass the popcorn. Go Vlad.

The war was all started at Saudi Arabia’s bidding. They want that gas pipeline to go through Syria. Europe needs the gas, so they are complicit in the genocide.

Mounting pressure unlikely to sway Obama on Syria

Obama is a malignant narcissist. He is incapable of being swayed by anything.

Your thoughts are interesting, and likely accurate.

These “diplomats” need to be named. Who the hell are they, and who the hell do they think they are to be demanding changes to policy?

Assad is the only bad guy here? Did we not learn the lessons of late 1963 in Viet Nam?

November 2, 1963

Ngo Dinh Diem assassinated in South Vietnam

Following the overthrow of his government by South Vietnamese military forces the day before, President Ngo Dinh Diem and his brother are captured and killed by a group of soldiers. The death of Diem caused celebration among many people in South Vietnam, but also lead to political chaos in the nation. The United States subsequently became more heavily involved in Vietnam as it tried to stabilize the South Vietnamese government and beat back the communist rebels that were becoming an increasingly powerful threat. While the United States publicly disclaimed any knowledge of or participation in the planning of the coup that overthrew Diem, it was later revealed that American officials met with the generals who organized the plot and gave them encouragement to go through with their plans. Quite simply, Diem was perceived as an impediment to the accomplishment of U.S. goals in Southeast Asia. His increasingly dictatorial rule only succeeded in alienating most of the South Vietnamese people, and his brutal repression of protests led by Buddhist monks during the summer of 1963 convinced many American officials that the time had come for Diem to go.

Three weeks later, an assassin shot President Kennedy. By then, the United States was more heavily involved in the South Vietnamese quagmire than ever. Its participation in the overthrow of the Diem regime signaled a growing impatience with South Vietnamese management of the war. From this point on, the United States moved step by step to become more directly and heavily involved in the fight against the communist rebels.

These are the people who instigated the butchery

They need to be exposed and purged from power

Agreed, nothing can sway Obama from his plotted course to (as he promised in 2008) “fundamentally change the United States”.

The “diplomats” are the ones who work for Washington politicians and Beltway think tanks run by people who all fit the same description: they’ve been bought by foreign interests through donations to the Clinton Foundation, real estate partnerships with the Bush family, and U.S. campaign contributions (across the board).

Obama right ? That is just an illusion. When it comes to figuring out the DC Cartel, you need to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Obama could not get congressional support for an invasion of Syria. If he could, he would. Puzzle piece number 1. Why are we being told about these 51 state department dissenters ? Obviously because Obama’s State Department wants us to be told. Puzzle piece number 2. Why is this story being pushed as the Saudi Prince who would be king is visiting with Obama ? Sauds want Assad gone so oil pipeline can be built. Russians have stated that attacking Asad means war. Why start war with Russia ? Puzzle piece number 3. Hillary still controls the state department. Or at least her people are still there. Russia is on the verge of releasing the emails they hacked before Hillary deleted them. The oil pipeline is what drives the Sauds and Qataris. Retaining control of US foriegn policy is what drives Hillary’s flying monkeys. Along with the millions the Sauds have paid her.

I agree with assessment of others on the role of the Saudis. And Turkey and the Gulfies and the CIA and some European countries. But IMO, the goals were beyond oil pipelines. It is more about the Sunnite Islamist world weakening and dominating the Fertile Crescent/Arabia/ME. Which means weakening and breaking the Shia Crescent. And of course, the weapon of choice for destabilizing and overthrowing countries is jihadism. This has worked disastrously over the past 40 years, and has resulted in failed states with generations of dysfunction. But the CIA believes it might work if given just one more chance in a different country. And somehow they are able to undertake their demonic doings with U.S. tax-payer dollars.

If not for Valdimir Putin, we would now have mass graves of Christians in Syria. And the real perpetrators would be living large in Fairfax County on a government retirement, collecting a $200k contractor gig with Booz Allen, and be on Morning Joe talking about your new book about your cloak and dagger exploits. And being adulated by the dopes there.

I simply don;t care anymore about what Onambla does.

There is 214 days until he’s gone. Whatever the right thing to do is....it’s going to have to wait until President Trump.

So true. Also, after they “retire,” they get sinecures in Saudi-funded companies or businesses that are hell-bent on building up their activities in the Gulf states (see General Petraeus and Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts).

The NYTimes published a list of names a couple of days ago. I think they leaked this now because these people figure they have nothing to lose - if Hillary becomes President, then this is a means of getting into her good graces (the Saudis have contributed substantially to her campaign). If Trump becomes President, then these people might need to look for other jobs, and Saudi-funded think tanks are a promising avenue of employment.

As a former Information Processing Center Information Management Specialist for the Department State (Ret), I can only tell you that the cable was sent back channel on a system where no one will ever recover it even if forensics were called in to try.

The real question one might ask for an answer to, is "How did over 50 diplomats, liberals el at., come together, to oppose their Messiah's Foreign Policy?"

There seems to be a western media blackout on the numerous ISIS defeats in Syria, Iraq and Libya that have occurred and are on going for the past couple of weeks.
