Amid melting Arctic ice, Kerry sees looming climate catastrophe By Lesley Wroughton
ABOARD THE HDMS THETIS, Greenland Standing near Greenland's Jakobshavn glacier, the reputed source of the iceberg that sank the Titanic over a century ago, U.S Secretary of State John Kerry saw evidence of another looming catastrophe.
Giant icebergs broken off from the glacier seemed to groan as they drifted behind him, signaling eventual rising oceans that scientists warn will submerge islands and populated coastal region.
Briefed by researchers aboard a Royal Danish Navy patrol ship, Kerry appeared stunned by how fast the ice sheets are melting. He was struck by the more dire warnings he heard about the same process underway in more remote Antarctica.
"This has been a significant eye-opener for me and I've spent 25 years or more engaged in this issue," Kerry said on the deck of the ship with Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen during a two-day visit that ended late on Friday.
Kerry made his first visit to this part of the Arctic to witness the effects of climate changes and press the need to implement the Paris climate accord. He has called it "the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction".

No kidding who would have ever guessed that by the middle of June ice would be melting in North America.
If the ice pack was diminishing, and the sea-level was rising, they’d still be calling it global warming. Instead, they hedge their bets and call it climate change.
Yeah, hopefully to extricate ourselves from it. ....and the UN and NATO as well. ...for starters.
Great news that Greenland ice is melting, many new opportunities for mining, farming and colonization.

Such an appalling lack of science literacy on display here. Melting icebergs do not cause sea levels to change.
It's an easy enough experiment to do: take a basin, fill with water, and add icecubes until the level of water is nearly even with the rim. Wait for the icecubes to melt. Watch what happens to the water level.
The exact same thing happens in the ocean. The melting of floating icebergs has NO effect on sea level.

We can discuss global warming and all of that. But, liberals go off the deep end, when they say this is greatest threat humanity has ever faced. When they say it’s the greatest threat to civilization, they sound foolish. Just my opinion, but I think ISIS and Muslim terror is a greater threat to civilization than global warming.
There’s no comparison.
They just open themselves up to ridicule, when they over state this and talk about how this is the greatest challenge we face.

Kerry thinks every catastrophe is man caused, usually by capitalists. Which doesn’t explain what happened to the dinosaurs.
Icebergs in the spring? I’m shocked at this new development. It’s a good thing that there were no icebergs around in the spring of 1912 or the Titanic might not have made it to New York safely.
He couldn’t foresee the disaster of his campaign but he could see that?
