Trump said he was going to meet with the NRA. That is all I heard. At his rally’s he has been supporting the 2nd amendment big time. As stated this is a WaPo story and to be discounted on that alone.

As you are conveniently pretending not to remember, Trump suggested that perhaps everyone can agree on not to permit gun sales to those on the government terror watch list. That is why he wanted to meet with the NRA to discuss that. I thought Trump was a leader. I guess not.
