Gov. Martinez is in her Safe Space. Her feelings are hurt and cannot act responsibly at this moment.

If I were Gov. Scott, I would round up every one of them, and detain them until a background check was completed.IMHO, Obama is a psychopath.

Gas lines are usually quite shallow. Most of ours are only about 2-3 feet down and we have a Call Before You Dig system which I believe is Nationwide. That's too shallow. Minimum federal standards for cover are 30 to 36 inches depending on location. Most major interstate transmission lines are deeper.
The trench is excavated to a depth that provides sufficient cover over the pipeline after backfilling. Typically, the trench is about 4 to 6 feet wide in stable soils and about 2 to 5 feet deep to the top of the pipe, depending on the pipelines diameter and DOT Class location. This depth allows for the required minimum of 30 to 36 inches of cover. Additional cover for the pipeline is provided at road and waterbody crossings, while less cover (a minimum of 18 inches) is required in rock.

I worked in the engineering dept for a Water authority. This was way back in the '80s and the majority of the work was residential. Lotsa incidents during inspection for new water main installations. Contractors love to pretend they didn't hit a gas main. They repair them quick enough...just don't want the hit on their report card.
We had a dude called "Doctor Destructo"...who swore the tree came after him. If it was on site...he hit it. Why the contractor kept him, I don't know...maybe a relative. I'm a licensed land surveyor by trade with a degree in engineering. Most of us have gone to 18" reinforcing rods for setting corners in the front yards. I'm 72 and pondering retirement after 53 years in the field.

Pipelines are buried for the most part. The real Achilles heel to the system are the pumping stations every 40 or 50 miles.

Could interrupting the natural gas flow cascade into a commercial power failure in the area? Power outages from El Paso to Phoenix in a hundred degree heat wave could make the LA RAZAs restless.

Those are lo-pressure LDC lines.
Interstate, dry-gas PPL is, at a minumum 36-inches deep but more likely 48-72-inches deep.
