Immigration agents catch an abysmally small percentage of the illegal immigrants who arrived on visas but overstayed their welcome, authorities admitted to Congress Tuesday, describing a loophole that those around the globe are increasingly using to gain a foothold in the U.S. At least 480,000 people overstayed their visas last year, adding to a backlog thats reached some 5 million total, members of Congress said. But immigration agents launched investigations into just 10,000 of them, or about 0.2 percent, and arrested fewer than 2,000, less than 0.04 percent, saying the others dont rise to the level of being priority targets.
We utilize our prioritization scheme along with the resources that we have, Craig Healy, assistant director for national security investigations at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said as he struggled to defend the administrations meager efforts.
Overstays have traditionally drawn less scrutiny than border jumpers when it comes to illegal immigration. For one, they entered legally, which means they went through at least some inspection, and they are more likely to go home of their own accord.
While border crossers draw heavily from Latin America, visa overstays come from across the globe including from so-called special interest countries with ties to terrorism. After years of delay, Homeland Security officials in January released a report detailing part of the problem. Of the nearly 50 million business and tourist visas issued, about 1 percent or 500,000 remained even after their permission expired in 2015.

Offer Bounty’s...get results
Not when there is fundamental transformation to do...
Or better fire the slackers!
we have thousands and thousands of bounty hunters/bail bondsmen/privateeyes in our country. I bet they could find them. $3K a head and they’ll be millionaires in no time.
At $3k a head I wouldn’t have to even leave town to be able to retire in comfort.
Perhaps they should take some of the budget/personnel from the department of tracking the $&!T out of the American people and put it toward tracking the muzzies.
^^^^^This X a million. What a joke this country has become, a bad joke.
“We utilize our prioritization scheme...”
Appropriate choice of words.
In all ways. Every single day we read about some new outrageous atrocity. It’s every single thing. Nothing works right.
Thanks Captain Obvious!
The second highest illegal alien population are the H-1Bs that over stay their visas and illegally work in the US.
Feels like I'm in some sort of bizzaro world. Good is called evil, evil called good. Our leaders appear under some sort of delusion. Foreigners/foreign interest over that of their own citizens. Christians exclusive, Muzzies faithful/honorable. Gubbamint info/stats skewed and deceptive. Illegals flooding across the borders. Over 120 T T Trillion in total national debt.
Good Grief! Heaven help us.
Just need them to come in for their government assistance checks and earned income tax refunds instead of mailing it to a drop box.
In response, just ho0w many of those Iranians, during the Carter years, who held revoked visas and passports, were ever rounded up?
“Their children are American citizens. “
Deport all of the non-citizens, keep the kids and put them up for adoption. Ban the parents and siblings from ever entering the United States again.
Notify the overstayers’ home countries of their status here as an illegal alien and freeze all entry into this country by individuals from those countries until the visa overstayers have been accounted for and returned home. And visa overstayers should be forever barred from coming back, even in the case of an emergency.
I like your idea blueplum.
A website with their names, last known address and photos. I’d log in and look for people last known to be in my general vicinity. If wrapping up a family of 4 can get me $12,000 I’d be stoked.
