Agreed. The only use the Republican Party serves is to provide Trump with ballot access in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. I suspect that has been his strategy all along. So far, it has worked better than Perot's attempt to establish a third party. Because the primary process took so long, the neo-con and GOP-e wings of the party cannot set up an independent Presidential run at this late date due to state ballot access laws. They have only two choices against Trump: Hillary and the Libertarian candidate. I suspect Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved, Mitt Romney, et. al. may choose the former.

The little guys also periodically turn into an inelegant blunt object that smashes things. The key seems to be to find good leadership in this endeavor. Otherwise it turns into mob rule with many regrets in the morning :(

I don’t know why this isn’t clear as a bell to all those who claim to be republican/conservative patriotic American voters...Not voting will almost assure Hillary of winning and that will effectively end the country as we have known it...

That tyrant would have to somehow put down 100,000,000 armed citizens. If even as few as one in ten resisted, it would still be an insurgency 10,000,000 strong - the largest standing army on the planet - bigger than all the military forces of the world, combined.

What's missing from mainstream media today is a sense of moral authority and what should be done -- above and beyond the motive to make money. Freedom's great in economics, but a citizenry uneducated in the Constitution and the civility it brings cannot remain free forever. A force outside of freedom is also essential to institute righteous laws and ensure the media benefits the society as a whole and moves it in the proper direction. And this notion harkens back to the time when Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn came to the U.S. and severely chastised America for moral weakness. H. L. Mencken (the most influentiual newspaper pundit of the early 20th century) talked about the fact that America never had an aristocracy -- and he saw that as a major defect of our republic. The Old World Great Britain (back then) had an aristocracy and it served as the guiding light for the moral character of that nation. It's all explained in a wonderful essay Mencken wrote called Vox Populi. The text (5-6 pages) is full available on-line at Google Books ebook. So in Mencken's view, the only course left to save democracy was for the minority of right-thinking Americans to beat the demagogues at their own game. Though it may be distasteful, the minority was compelled to adopt the same tactics the progressive demagogues use. Otherwise, the corrupt majority will win and drag the nation down. And that's precisely what Trump is doing. He's on the side of civilization, moral character, hard work, and freedom, but he's also an expert at popular persuasion and demagogic tactics. Thank God, he's on our side. |
