The class itself will be used on deep blue water deployments, reportedly. It’s based on ships the Russians built for the Indians for use in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

The Kriegsmarine replaced the bows on Scharnhorst and Gneisenau with
more flared ones before the war.What they called the Atlantic Bow to help seaworthiness.
