Nato has no standing army. Individual European armies would have to hold and fight alone until NATO could mobilize

Maybe if the euros would stop their socialist living and having their military mainly prepare for parade functions...

Perhaps provocative war games in the Baltic aren’t a great idea.

yes, but much of western europe ain’t worth taking anymore

(especially since its ruling elites are selling it out to the IslamoNazi invasion....... Russia already has its IslamoNazi problems, it doesn’t need 10 or 20 million more deadly terrorist troublemakers...)

In the short-term the Russians may be able to breakthrough, but their success would be short-lived.

Russia still doesn’t have a working logistics system. They wouldn’t be able to beat poland.

Yep, Western Europe is ripe for the picking in 60 hours.

But look at the two Russian Arctic Brigades poised on the Northern doorstep of Canada. The Russians could seize Ottawa within a margin of time much shorter than 60 hours, and demand the possession of the entire Northern part of Canada and its incredible natural resources

***********************************

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Joint_Strategic_Command_%28Russia%29

The Arctic Joint Strategic Command is a Russian military command established on December, 1st, 2014. The Arctic Strategic Command area of responsibility includes Russian territories in the Arctic.[1][2] The new military command is to be formed on the basis of the Russian Northern Fleet and it is planned to take control of various units, vessels and formations, previously part of the Western, Central and Southern military districts.

The new command, which will be named as a fifth Russian military district,[3] is aimed at protecting Russian interests in the Arctic region, and the Northern Fleet will become its main striking force; according to other sources, the command is not planned to become a military district of the Russian Armed Forces.[4]

According to anticipations, the new command will also comprise ground Arctic warfare brigades, air force and air defence units as well as additional administrative structures.[5]

As part of the establishment of the new command, the Russian Ministry of Defence plans to reopen airfields and ports on the New Siberian Islands in the Laptev Sea and the Franz Josef Land archipelago, and at least seven airfields on the continental part of the Arctic Circle, with Tiksi in Yakutia expected to house the bulk of the Arctic air force.[6] Alongside the conventional forces, also a special force grouping is to be established.[7] Other bases are located on Wrangel Island and Mys Shmidta in the Chukchi Sea.[8]

As of January, 7th, 2015, the commander of the Northern Fleet reportedly envisaged a series of coordination-improving tasks, including submarine underwater operations, assigned to cruise vessels.[9] Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov also said that it will be set up a specialised training centre for servicemen doing military service in the Arctic Region in 2015.[10]

Ground forces

The ground element of the command will incorporate two Arctic motorized infantry brigades. The brigades are expected to accomplish coast patrolling missions, protect sites and territories on the coast of the northern seas and the Arctic Ocean, support and escort ships sailing along the Northern Sea Route, and demonstrate the military presence in the Arctic.

According to Commander-in-Chief of the Land Force, Colonel General Oleg Salyukov, an Arctic motorized rifle brigade is, as of October 2014, under formation in the Murmansk Oblast, near the Norwegian border, while the second brigade is scheduled for 2016 to be stationed in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.[11]

Air and air defence forces

Air Defence forces are said to consist of Pantsir-S1 missile and artillery systems, which have been put on duty on the Kotelny Island of the Novosibirsk archipelago in 2014. The deployment of intermediate and long-range air defence systems in this area has also been planned.[12]

The command involved is the 1st Air Force and Air Defence Command, and specifically the 1st Air and Space Defence Brigade, including the 531st, 583rd, and 1258th Air Defence Regiments, the 331st and 332d Radio-Technical Regiments, plus other units stationed in the Murmansk, Chukotka and Arkhangelsk Oblasts.[13] Air Force Commander-in-Chief Colonel-General Viktor Bondarev told in an interview that by 2017 the Tiksi airport complex will be operational, and it will be garrisoned with upgraded MiG-31 interceptors.[14][15]

In January 2016, Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu announced that the 45th Air and Air Defence Army had been formed under control of the Northern Fleet in December 2015.[16]

**************************************

And to make it worse, Canada has a poofter Prime Minister who would rather spend money on international community organizer hug-ins than budget for the defense of the Northern reaches of Canada. He has a utopian socialist's disdain for the military. Putin will play him like a fiddle.

There isn’t the slightest indication on their part that they have any plan, intent, or reason to do this. But breathless cold war stories are great for defense spending.

Meanwhile look at the expansion of NATO since 1990, literally surrounding Russia and moving right up to it’s borders. When they start to rumble as we close in the last 100 miles or so.... we shriek and run screaming that Russia wants to invade all of Europe.

Utterly insane.

He said Russia had a massive geographical and time advantage but by 2017 the US would be in a better position to defend its allies.

That all depends on who is President.

Any NATO member who does not achieve 2% of GDP (Treaty requirement) by 2017 should be expelled from NATO at the close of that year.

If a majority of countries, especially the big 3 of Germany, France and Britain do not achieve 2% of GDP in 2017, the US should withdraw from the treaty.

Period.

My guess is that Pooty Poot has other things on his mind other than invading a NATO country.

Wait a minute. Vlad, how about Turkey? Erdogan hates you, and he has ties to ISIS.

Depends on the objectives.

They should be able to make it to the Rhine and Danube in 60 hours. West and south of that would take longer.

Respectfully, I agree with the opposing views, here. Russians don’t do logistics well. They might be able to overrun a few former Soviet Republics, now in NATO; the so called “Near abroad”, but projecting power, and sustaining an invading force is not their forte, and they know it.

Anybody else remember the annual 96 hour (4 day) ARTEPs based on the Pentagon assumption that if we could fight for 4 days straight we would beat the Soviets? We used to joke that if the Soviets had any brains, they’d hit during hour 97...because were all whacked from lack of sleep.

Speaking as a retired military officer and as someone who knows many folks in the current DoD, allow me to chime in that this article is very, very true.

Out military has been decimated - by budget cuts, Sequestration (that lasts another 7 years - thanks GOP Congress), and Obama's homosexual and feminst assaults.

The "Americans" who voted for our current leadership are traitors. There is no other way to put that.

When this next war happens, we will be in serious danger.
