Liberal-leaning Protestant groups, such as Presbyterians and Lutherans, started shrinking earlier, but some evangelical churches are now in decline. The conservative Southern Baptist Convention lost 200,000 from its ranks in 2014 alone, dropping to 15.5 million, its smallest number in more than two decades.
The trend is reflected in the highest reaches of public life. The U.S. Supreme Court is now comprised completely of Jews and Roman Catholics. In the 2012 presidential election, the Republican nominees were a Mormon, Mitt Romney, and a Catholic, Paul Ryan.
The idea of what we call biblical morality in our culture at large is completely laughed at and spurned as nonsense, said David Parish, a former pastor at Christian Fellowship and the son of its founder. The church as an institution, as a public entity we are moving more and more in conflict with the culture and with other agendas.

Then they never knew their place on a world "ruled by Satan".
Surely most of them know the season we’re living in.
The wheat is being separated from the chaff.
....Yet there is a beautiful hymm called “This Is My Father’s World”, you do understand, do you?
Case closed. You said it.
Liberals have taken over and secularism is the new order of the day . This didn’t happen over night and our God fearing politicians did not or will not stand up for our Christian beliefs ,,, rather they tell us to be tolerant of a religion hell bent on killing the infidels . The whole country is up side down .
I’m Catholic and our trend lines don’t look very different.
The nation is becoming Euro-Secular at a rapid pace.
They wonder? It’s been over forty years since abortion was legalized and sanctioned by this government GOP uses it as a platform to get into office then does nothing until next election. Now they’re actually trying to get the democrat elected
They can’t hide it any more. Evangelicals meant nothing but votes
GOP has no way to cover that up anymore
Just look at the so-called evangelical pastors/leaders who show up on television all the time (Joel O’Steen, Rick Warren and the like) - they are so lukewarm, ineffective at truly advancing and contending for the Gospel, and always going along to get along with world and with what for them should be utterly false religions that they are worthless as Christian leaders and shepherds. Then look at all the thousands and thousands of Christians who continue to sit in their pews, listen to their pablum and enjoy their rock and light shows on Sundays year after year.
Yes, current American evangelical Christianity has become toothless and ineffective to change our culture. It is too busy trying to be liked by the godless and the unrepentant sinners.
The church doesn’t want to offend anyone. If I could, I would leave the U.S.. It is no longer my country. I don’t recognize it any more.
They shouldn’t have listened to Glen Beck, we tried to tell them but they wouldn’t listen!!!
Thank your for making this point.
1) The popular/mega-churches are NOT preaching the gospel. They are teaching a false gospel.
2) The rest of American so called Evangelicals remain silent about it; refusing to point the finger at these heretical preachers.
And, then they are surprised people are leaving the pews.
This movement is called “The Dones.” It is people who are done with organized church, because they are tired of lukewarm or worse lying preachers.
You can change the channel, you know. There are pastors on TV or online who are not out to "tickle your ears". Try watching Charles Stanley, David Jeremiah, Mark Jeske, Chuck Swindoll, Ravi Zacharias, John Lennox, Adrian Rogers.
If you cannot find them on broadcast TV, go to the Intenet for their websites, YouTube or http://www.oneplace.com/
When the congregation goes liberal, its members often find it easier to just go secular - then you can ditch all the religious rules and guilt altogether. And those who want the structure and enforcement thereof go to conservative denominations.
Along those same lines there appears to be a lack of leadership. Love him or hate him, the Rev. Jerry Falwell was willing to put himself on the front line, fight for what he believed, and suffer the slings and arrows as a result.
I can’t even get my Church to oppose a President who is forcing nuns to pay for birth control.
Narrow is the way and few will find it.
It’s called the falling away.
You can read about it referenced in 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 Timothy 3:1-7.
We are in the very last hours of the Age of Grace. Even apostates and atheists know something is “up”.
Media.
Both in terms of constantly maligning them with propaganda, and in terms of providing so much distracting entertainment that people don't go to church as often anymore.
They were swept out to sea by the willful admittance of the rest of the worlds nonproductive eaters.
