Trump's unconventional approach to building a ground game

Donald Trump -- who made a fortune in part by lending his name to business ventures on which he left a light touch -- appears poised to take a similar approach to building his ground game.

The presumptive GOP nominee has argued he can put as many as 15 states into play this fall, but he lags far behind Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in building up troops for a general election battle.

Rather than building out teams of his own hires in swing states -- the model previous nominees like Mitt Romney and John McCain relied on -- Trump is signaling to the Republican National Committee and state parties that he will rely on them to take the lead in organizing key toss up states.

The RNC has been building the infrastructure of a campaign for many years and Trump will rely a great deal on their program.

I have to ask, and how great was Mitt’s and John’s ground game? Bash, Bash, Bash and then compare Donald to losers that never saw the White House isn’t the best of arguments.

Donald has millions more votes than they got so who’s to say he’s not ahead of the ground game on his and Manafort’s game plan?

Could probably use Karl Rove’s database...for a price.

Might be a good idea to try a new approach.

The one McCain and Romney relied upon obviously didn’t get them across the finish line.

Trump reminds me of the character Rodney Dangerfield played in the movie, Back to School. As in the scene where RD tells the snooty professor how buildings really get built, Trump knows how things really get done.

Trump with Cruz on the ground game would have been a great combo if Cruz didn’t recognize the situation and withdrew after SC. He could have remained an influential member of the Senate. Had he done so.

As for now? I don’t know. It seems Trump has flushed out a progressive agenda within the GOP and raised the hackles of the status quo. I see nothing but sabotage after sabotage of Trumps campaign by current GOPe and the compliant media and overly cooperative social media.

It’s trump schooling the GOP that you have to get past Hillary. He must be as sick as we are of watching them give it away

If you look at the scale of Trump’s victories, in many cases he won every county by wide margins, and in some, such as FL he lost only one county, in Georgia he lost only 3, in SC only 2, and in TN only 2. Despite Arnold’s plea for people to vote for Kasich, Trump won every single county in California. He also won every county in NJ even after former Governor Whitman urged people to vote against him.

In many cases, it was early voting, and absentee ballots that built up a big lead for Trump. From NY to IN, Trump over-performed his Real Clear Politics average by 9 percentage points.

I think that Trump’s ground game is far more advanced than most think.

Let me be more direct...has he lived in the White House? Did millions stay home during the primaries and General?

I’ll be very blunt and say did a lot of religious Republicans stay home because their churches pointed out he is a member of a CULT? I voted but I’m sure a lot of my Missouri Syn. Lutherans stayed home and the American’s who were throwing things at their TV at his last debate because he didn’t mention Benghazi!

Ground game isn’t ALL the election as Ed Rollins and several others have pointed out. This is a TECH world and Donald is playing by HIS rules not the so-called professional loser rules.

Donald is already a head of the OLD Game Rules.

I agree. Seriously, who does the GOP think it is, that Donald Trump has to unify it? It is corrupt and I am voting for Trump come hell or high water. I don’t care a rats ass about the GOP and they don’t need to unify in my opinion. They are done in my eyes. I am loyal to Trump PERIOD. He knows exactly what he is doing. He is a very intelligent man, far greater than what we have had in the White House since before I was born so GOD BLESS DONALD TRUMP!

Romney got a million more votes than McCain, so fewer voters must have stayed home for Romney than stayed home for McCain.

You said it better than me. Thanks.

My Gadsden Flag was stolen off my house which was displayed over seven feet high. This was last July and the police said it was most likely stolen because its a very neat flag. Pains were taken getting it down and even the push pins were taken! I knew then there were people as me out in American neighborhoods Pi$sed too!

I’m voting for Donald not a Party because I’ve left the Republican Party long ago.

Trump said he’s going for the knockout so that this stuff doesn’t matter. Let’s hope he can continue to get his message out. If the media started ignoring him and the social media banned his talk as ‘hate speech’, then what are we to do?
