Elon Musk Earmark in Defense Authorization Bill Would Hurt National Security
breitbart ^ | 8 Jun 2016 | Edward Woodson

The Senate is debating the Defense Authorization Bill, a bill to provide the annual legislation to map out defense spending priorities for the year, and is going to consider an idea that would hurt national security.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is pushing an earmark for Elon Musk that would make him, effectively, the sole distributor of rockets to launch new satellites into space. In a battle between two potential defense contractors, McCain is trying to pass an amendment that would prevent the United Launch Alliance from continuing to provide rockets so that his pal Musk can take over that contract.

Access to space for national defense purposes is a monopsony marketplace. Time to retire this fine specimen from AZ, my home state.

Pilotfish McCain has found a new shark in Musk to replace the long lost Keating.

Question for McCain:

Does Musk pay better than Keating, or not?

From what I have heard SpaceX charges much less than United Launch Alliance, ULA has been overcharging the government for years, and ULA has tried various other methods to prevent SpaceX from getting business or access to launch facilities, so I would question whether this article is accurate.

I just did a paper on Musk and when he learned it would cost him about $8M to purchase one time ICBM’s from the Russians, he figured out that the cost to build his own and reuse would be cheaper. While he may drive down the cost, giving him a monopoly isn’t the answer either IMHO.

IIRC, Musk gave boatloads of money to Obama.......and received much back in taxpayer dollars already. The question is, why doesn’t the Uniparty declare itself so we can find a good, Conservative Party to support?

Of course, his rockets still blow up sometimes. We lost a 100 million dollar satellite on one. And Space X boosters are also less powerful than the Russian RD-180, which has a perfect record in US service with the Delta rocket.

Musk the ultimate crony cannot get a heavy satellite into high orbit.

Also worth noting ula isn’t going to meet deadlines with their new systems and still uses Russian rockets I believe.

Yet. What Musk has been able to achieve so far is beyond remarkable. I wouldn’t bet against him.

How much is McCain being paid? We should all send him emails and tweets, asking him what his cut is.
