A pickup truck sought by cops for reckless driving plowed into a group of bicyclists along a western Michigan road, seriously wounding four and killing at least five people, authorities said.
A flurry of 911 calls made before the deadly collision alerted police to a blue truck driving dangerously throughout northern Kalamazoo County Tuesday evening.
The calls began at 6:08 p.m. and repeated at 6:13 p.m., and 6:21 p.m. The final call at 6:36 p.m. told police of a pickup truck that slammed into nine bicyclists on a rural road three miles north of Kalamazoo
Police were looking for the blue pickup truck at the time it struck and killed five people, injured four others, Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said at a media briefing.

The disposable kind they sell for boats work great. So do squirt guns.
****Bicyclists have the worst road etiquette of any set of wheels rolling. ****
A few weeks ago I got behind two, on a narrow winding paved road, in rush hour. Within a few minutes they had traffic backed up for miles before they finally took off on a side road.
I thought, “WHAT IDIOT would be out bicycling on THIS road during Rush Hour!” An hour later and they could have had the road to themselves, but THEY chose rush hour.
I was at a stop light in a major city several years ago. When the light turned green I began to move when suddenly from my left came two bicyclists plowing right through the red light. Good thing I had good brakes.
We need more gun laws.
Really? That is interesting. I am 58 yrs old and when I was a child, the rules were clear: Pedestrians walked in the lane (on the shoulder) against the traffic. Bicyclists rode in the lane with the traffic.
“Or youll be murdered because you might make someone 10 minutes late...”
10 minutes? I won’t wait that long. Try pulling your bike over and stop playing in highway, jackass. Mother should have taught you better common sense than to play in the freeway.
Some of the killed were children.
Because to some people politics us everything. Republicans never do anything wrong, and democrats are always at fault. It’s a very childlike attitude.
When I was a kid my father told me to ride on the side of the road facing the on coming traffic. That way no one would come up behind you that you didn’t see.
Some of the killed were children.

None of the victims was a child, as was earlier reported.

Official rules have probably changed over the years. Today most states I believe use
riding with the flow of traffic in the right lane.
Texas:
Texas requires that a person operating a bicycle on a roadway, at a speed less than
the speed of traffic, shall ride as near as practicable to the right curb or edge of
the roadway, unless:

I’m a bit older and so is the Mrs. I was raised on the East coast and she was raised on the West. We were both given the same rules by our parents.
I rode my bicycle to school in about 1951/52/53. I don’t doubt the rules have changed.
i have air horn works great to wake people up.
I know. That is the second time I have seen that term used inappropriately.
I didn’t blame the cyclist. Nice try, but FAIL.
Reading is fundamental. Try it. And stay the F out of the way.
Did he shout “Allah Akbar” as he plowed into them?
“Tragic hit and run but why would you expect a report on party affiliation in a case like this?:
Why you ask, because of headlines like this, “Republican Trump supporter, hits children on bikes” If the person had a Trump bumper sticker on his car that is what the headline would read.
Hi guys,
Two of my adults children live in the area involved. One couple bikes with my 12 year old grand daughter all the time.
They are all alright and were not involved in this terrible drunk’s murderous behavior.
The road involved connects a dedicated bike path to a county park so it has to be used in going from the bike trails to the park. The bikers were hit head-on. None of my son’s bike group was on this ride but he is acquainted with all in that community and will have known some of them.
