I was talking with a friend last night and discussing the whole transgender phenomenon. We were talking about the old cross-dressers and how they fit into this.

And I think it’s a distinction that needs to be addressed.

In the past, men who dressed as women, and women who dressed as men, did so because of the way it made them feel.

The word here is “feel”. They enjoyed it, whether it gave them a thrill of the taboo, whether they felt comfortable in the clothes of the opposite sex or impersonating the opposite sex, or because they just wanted to see what it felt like.

Cross-dressers usually exhibited some neurotic, but it was fairly harmless as a whole. A woman who dressed as a man on occasion would normally dress as a woman, and vice versa.

There were famous cross-dressers, like RuPaul and Divine, but it was their act, their entertainment persona. They were men, gay men that’s true, but men nonetheless.

Remember, John Hopkins was performing gender reassignment surgeries in the 1960s, so these famous cross-dressers could have had the surgery if they wanted. But they didn’t. They were playing the part of a woman/man. They were pretending to be the opposite gender.

It’s the difference between someone doing medieval re-enactment on the weekends, or even making a living doing medieval re-enactment, and taking potshots at someone with their crossbow because as Lord of Squirrel Manor, they are within their rights to kill trespassers.

One is weird, but harmless to society as a whole. The other is a dangerous psychotic that will end up causing harm to the themselves and those around them.

People who suffer from gender dysphoria should be helped to overcome their mental illness, not joined in their delusional fantasy by people who aught to know better.

The acceptance and celebrity of a cross-dresser is orders of magnitude different from the acceptance and celebrity of someone suffering a serious mental illness. And the failure of our society to recognize this is stunning.

Remember the old days when it was said that what People do behind Closed Doors is nobody’s business?

Now they take their private stuff out in the real world and everyone had better like it or else.
