That is the same impression I get. I do not see a similarity between the two locations either. I like Austin.

I have a very good friend who moved from the Bay Area to Austin to take a senior position at Tracor. He build a very nice home (up on the hill with all the UT professors). He even helped one of his neighbors to get elected to some local position or another. But he and his lovely family were absolutely “shunned” by all of his neighbors because “they weren’t a real Texans.” After seven years, he wife returned here for a visit, called her husband, and said that she wan’t coming back to live any longer in Texas. She said that she’d had her fill of their backward-assed attitudes toward people who weren’t “true Texans,” and wanted to have nothing more to do with them. Sadly, their home had not appreciated, but they got what they could for it, and moved back to Cupertino into a tract home with the proceeds. He was a VP in another SV company. When they retired a few years ago, they sold their tract home for $2 million and moved up to Reno, NV to be near one of their sons. They were able to purchase a 4,300 sf home up on the Mt Rose Highway overlooking Reno plus a $300,000 Class A motor home with the proceeds. And that’s why I turned down a “promotion” to go to Texas to be a plant manager. Texas, economically, is a one-way street for Californians, and don’t get me started about this crap about “not being a real Texan.” When I asked the mayor of the town where I was proposing to relocate if the town’s public swimming pool were integrated, ! was told: “why sho’ it is, but the ni—er’s don’t come cause the know they ain’t welcome!” What a wonderful place to raise a family, not!

I've never seen a bigger load of BS in my entire life. You must live in fantasy land. We're certainly glad you didn't come here.

BTW, Austin is in Hill Country. "the Hill" in your BS would describe about 500 square miles.

“I’ve never seen a bigger load of BS in my entire life.”

It’s the honest truth, you just don’t want to admit that Texas has a bunch of biggots living there. Have a nice day, go kick some cow patties around or head out out to the outhouse and read the Sears catalog.
