As he reflected on Saturday on the death of Muhammad Ali, Donald J. Trump gushed, calling him a “terrific guy,” “so generous,” and an “amazing poet.”
“He was two people,” Mr. Trump said of Ali in an interview. “In the ring, he was fierce, and outside of the ring, he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.”
The presumptive Republican nominee’s kind words were not just an obligatory salute to an iconic figure.
The two men had been friendly for many years, dating back at least to the 1980s. Ali attended Mr. Trump’s 2005 wedding to Melania Knauss in Palm Beach, Fla., and Mr. Trump appeared at Ali’s charity events.
Late last year, though, there appeared to be a chill in their mutual admiration after Ali issued a statement that seemed to criticize Mr. Trump’s call to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the United States.

Ali’s biographer was on Good Morning America and took a cheap shot at Trump. He said Ali told him Trump wasn’t as big as he (Trump) thought he was (paraphrase).

Believe me, Trump & Ali were a great team, raising millions for needy charities. Trump loves boxing and he loved working with Ali for good causes here and abroad!!! But....the real value of Trumps honest praise and admiration for Ali as a great boxing champ and world leader for great causes, is that not a word was mentioned by Trump that was of a political nature!!! Thanks, DJT!!!
You cannot say that for any Democrat, including, Hillary Clinton & Bernie Sanders. The body of one of the greatest of Americans was not yet cold for a few hours, when Clinton & Sanders ranted their low life, political inputs in their public comment about the great man. Ali, you were a flawed human man, as we all are, but the Lord sent you to us to become one of the best ever sportsman our world has ever seen. I loved you then....but, I even love you more now, for your sharp, focused wit, your love of all mankind, your jokes, your true/loyal friendships with friends & foe alike and the brillance of your positive presence & state of mind in your multi-battle with serious illness. You never, complained once, you never stopped helping people, all kinds. You showed us through good and bad times in your life, dignity, respect, compassion and poetry & mucho fun. I love you now and always...just seeing you banter with your one liners , etc, still makes me laugh and feel good today!!! Champ....your heavenly FATHER that sent you to be among us, awaits your arrival in his domain, heaven...the Angel trumpets are sounding loudly across the entire universe!!! Goodby, Great Man!!!
