During a 2009 address to a joint session of Congress, President Barack Obama told the country that his plans for health care reform would not extend to people who are in the country illegally.
"You lie!" South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson notoriously shouted. Obama replied, "That's not true."
But only two years after the largest coverage provisions in the Affordable Care Act took effect, the country's most populous state has passed a bill that, in fact, seeks to extend Obamacare to people regardless of their immigration status.
The bill, now before California Gov. Jerry Brown, aims to allow people who are in the country illegally to buy private health insurance on the state's exchange. Its author, Democratic state Sen. Ricardo Lara estimates that 390,000 such immigrants could receive health insurance, but officials who operate the exchange place that number closer to 50,000.
The legislation is being considered not only at a time when presidential candidates are campaigning in the Golden State but as those running have made health care and illegal immigration central platforms in their bids for the Oval Office, finding that their views on the topics have ignited voters' passions. To critics of the law, the bill signals another broken promise of Obamacare.
Obamacare explicitly bars people in the country illegally from its provisions, but a loophole called the "innovation waiver" allows for states to change portions of the law, as long as they make coverage available to more people and as long as the federal government doesn't have to pick up the tab, among other requirements. The bill, which would require that a request for a waiver be filed, first must be approved by the state legislature and the governor before the waiver can be considered by the federal government.

I think it was Laura Ingraham who was discussing this with a nurse yesterday on her show who said they get their care and don’t pay for it and they don’t intend to because they own nothing and have no credit nor credit rating or identification. Why pay for something you can get for free. These stupid people ain’t stupid.

Nut no mandate? Are not Illegal aliens getting preferential treatment?

Remember - King Obama said that illegals couldn’t get Obamacare.
Obamacare will die in 2017...stupid Californians can agree to go along with their stupid politicians to pay benefits to people who reside in the state illegally.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that if they're illegal aliens they are likely to be low income. And if they are low income they will qualify for subsidies, courtesy of you and I.
To be paid for by CA taxpayers since those illegals don’t have money of their own. It will be interesting to watch CA fold under socialism of their state government.
Remember when you visit California *you* will be paying their sales tax, their tourist tax, their occupancy tax. Plus the prices are higher to cover the mandated wages and taxes the business owner has to pay.
PPACA is a national disgrace and a monstrosity. It should not exist, it does so only because the politicians line up at the money trough like a bunch of monkeys.
Don’t intend to visit CA unless i have to do a flight there. I don’t spend on personal stuff on the road (so to speak) and the company picks up my tab which is charged back to the customer. CA to me is like going to Mexico which I don’t ever want to do.
Joe “You Lie!” Wilson exposed this years ago (that ObamaCare covered illegals) and in 2012 American voters (many of whom are NOT workers and/or taxpayers) decided this was quite acceptable...
Folks sure better vote in Trump.
Soon, we will need to dust off the 1867-68 Reconstruction Act and apply it to California.
The first act under Reconstruction is to move troops into the state and appoint a military governor.
