You came in, got screened for diseases, once medically cleared and you showed you were employed, sponsored, - think they even had makeshift schools....
Back then the entrants may not have tried to hard to learn the language (but you didn’t get very far if you couldn’t communicate with the natives) they made sure their kids and grandkids spoke the language.
The ONLY welfare was from relatives, maybe some church groups and a few funded charities (NO FED money)
Now ‘we’ give away free money, don’t screen for diseases, split families up and wonder why we have teen age feral animals prowling the streets, breeding a stronger class of feral animals, Welfare is a job and in a lot of cases if you add up all the bennies it pays much better than actually putting in a days work.
The SWHTF when the people they are robbing to keep the mooches going get a bellyful and either quit or go underground.
