The Dalai Lama said in an interview published Thursday that Europe has accepted “too many” refugees, and that they should eventually return to help rebuild their home countries.
“When we look into the face of every single refugee, especially the children and women, we can feel their suffering,” said the Tibetan spiritual leader, who has himself lived in exile for over half a century.
“A human being who is a bit more fortunate has the duty to help them. On the other hand, there are too many now,” he said, according to the German translation of the interview in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
“Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country,” he added with a laugh, the daily reported. “Germany is Germany.” …

Most of the sources of refugees are less crowded than their destination countries. Somalia has a population density similar to Kansas, Syria to Ohio and Iraq to Pennsylvania. Destination countries like Germany and even the United States are far more densely populated.
The obviously solution is that irreparably broken countries should be colonized either with other refugees or under a UN Mandate from countries who are doing the most to deal with the country. Somalia, with a climate like California and 2000 miles of coastline astride one of the busiest trade routes in the world, would be an obvious place to start. If the United Nations can show any credibility in colonizing a nearly empty, broken and dysfunctional country with refugees from the same general part of the world, then they can try it with the next broken country rather than merely parceling out the flotsam from the wreck of that poor excuse for a nation to the rest of the functional world.
Until then, they can STFU.

I guess he hasn't talked to any hard-core progressives, leftist and social-engineers about this.
That would be the first step to self-sufficiency. Although even Islamic countries which were under European colonial control in the previous century were far more functional than they are now thanks to a greatly reduced role for Islam.
You know things are beyond bad when the Dalai Lama comes out to criticize it.
