The nation will pause over the coming days to honor all Americans who have given their lives to defend the United States, and this year the National Memorial Day Concert will continue its legacy of saluting all who have worn the uniform with a special tribute to a man who still serves decades after losing a leg in Vietnam.

The National Memorial Day Concert takes place Sunday, May 29 at 8 p.m. on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. It airs on PBS. Actors Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna will co-host the event, which will include acts such as the Beach Boys, Trace Adkins, two different “American Idol” performers and the National Symphony Orchestra.

“I wouldn’t be anywhere else this weekend,” Sinise told WND and Radio America. “It’s become such a special way to highlight and honor the men and women who served our country and paid the ultimate price for our freedom.”

I might as well add this one on Mr. Sinise and his friend Jack Farley. Airs tonight and I know there are a lot of folks who won't tune in to PBS. I get it. It's like getting all your news from 'npr'. Every once in a while, something nice sneaks in. Thanks to those that gave all.

Went to the dress rehearsal yesterday, Saturday. Another moving show. The Beach Boys rocked. :)

I’m guessing that 8:00 p.m. (2000 hrs) is EDST. Adjust accordingly. :)

Sinise is a treasure. I was at Bayou La Batre September 2, 1974, when hurricane Carmen skirted past and didn't see him or Forrest. I was inspecting shrimp for procurement for the military USAF and Army. Every time I see Lt. Dan I'm reminded of a rather dull job given to me by the USAF but it sure beat getting shot.

Mmmmmmm. Fresh Gulf shrimps. I miss buying them by the side of the road out of the back of someone’s pick up truck. Not a lot of local shrimp in the Reno area. LOL! Thanks for your service.
