An oil strike has forced around a fourth of the country’s stations to close because of lack of gasoline. ___ Some 3,000 gasoline stations in France—around a fourth of the country’s stations—have had to close because an oil strike has shut off their fuel supply, Telesur reports. For the first time in more than five years, France is dipping into its strategic oil reserves, while unions block refineries. Those stations lucky enough to have fuel are under government orders to restrict the sale of diesel or gasoline to around $30 per customer.
Unions are picketing French refineries in protest against a planned labor reform that would extend the workweek and make it easier to lay off workers. The strike has led to some residents “panic”-buying fuel, which in turn has helped to create fuel shortages in many areas of France, including Paris.
Meanwhile, oil workers at the nation’s eight refineries can’t come to an agreement over whether to strike or not, with some facilities still operating as normal, the Associated Press/Ledger-Enquirer reports.
Alain Vidalies, junior minister for transportation, indicated that France has dipped into three days’ worth out of 115 days’ worth of fuel reserves because of gasoline shortages. Vidalies said that around 40% of gasoline stations in and around Paris have experienced full or partial fuel shortages.
Well, the stations that are out can advertise really low prices now!

The tyranny of unions. In the beginning they were a force for improving the lives of workers; now they’re more interested in control of politicians and their own agendas.

And given the cost of gasoline in Europe, that would amount to about 6 gallons.
Too bad there are no ‘scabs’ to take over the deliveries.

I recall working the night shift at a TV station that was airing a live TV production from France, circa, 1980.
The program was syndicated, rather than network. For us to air it, we had to interrupt the normal CBS network signal and have it replaced with the special.
It was to be live 9PM to 11PM ET, during the station break at about 9:50 there was a message fed via the link that “Due to a French technicians strike this program will end at 10:20”
This was back-in-the-day that network signals came into stations via AT&T Long Lines. We called up the control center and asked for an immediate switch back to CBS. AT&T made the switch right at 10P and we starting running Barnaby Jones at the regular time.
So, we dumped them before they could dump us.
You would think that at least some of the socialist crowd would finally figure out that a wealthy country produces more stuff to loot than a poor one. They say that at least 20% of Bernie’s supporters are smart enough to figure that out once their viable choices are down to Trump and the Witch.
When we evacuated for Hurricane Ike lot of folks left town without filling up or topping off their tank, even though they had several days notice. All local stations had those wonderful yellow plastic bags over their pumps. The parking lot of every gas station ourside the metro area was filled with people waiting for a gas truck to come. When we arrived in the Hill Country there were at least 300 cars at their one station. Gas truck arrived as we did and station limited everyone to 10 gallons and was pumping directly from the tanker to the cars. By that time, no one cared what it cost but I was amazed at the people who also had no cash. Just so ill prepared for a time without power.
And not only this, but there’s also a sale on used French military rifles...
they’ve never been fired and only dropped once!
That's all you need to know.
France and their Unions make bad deals.
On a positive note, there will be fewer lorries for the Muslim scum to stow away on in order to cross the Channel.
Imagine a maximum fill up of about 5 gallons. Which I assume is causing lines at stations as people go from station to station to fill up their car, or more significantly, delivery truck.
That’s certainly a racist move targeting the muzzies. How are they supposed to make firebombs and burn cars in protest if they gas stations are closed?
Less than 4. Gas in Europe often averages around $8 per US gallon.
Who do they think they are! The TSA!
