Fallout over McAuliffe investigation extends to Richmond mayor's race

The fallout over news of a federal investigation into Gov. Terry McAuliffe trickled down to the Richmond mayors race Wednesday with an attack on McAuliffes former aide and mayoral hopeful Levar Stoney.
Former state delegate Joseph D. Morrissey issued a statement calling on Stoney to reject any campaign contributions from Governor McAuliffe or any of his contributors.
Stoney stepped down from his position in McAuliffes cabinet to run for mayor, and his ties to the governor and his fundraising machine were widely understood to be one of his greatest assets going into the race. Its not clear what impact, if any, the investigation into McAuliffe might have on Stoney.
McAuliffe pushed back against reports of the investigation into his campaign finances during a morning appearance on WTOP's "Ask the Governor" program Monday, saying the contributions from a Chinese businessman generating scrutiny are legitimate.
Later in the day, McAuliffes personal lawyer said the U.S. Department of Justice Department had said the inquiry focused not on campaign donations but whether McAuliffe violated laws dealing with foreign influence of U.S. policy before his election, and that there is no evidence to support the claim. In his statement, however, Morrissey called any potential donations tied to McAuliffe "tainted and potentially criminal."
Any funds from Terry McAuliffe PACs or individuals residing outside of Richmond is necessarily tainted by this FBI investigation, he said. I am calling upon Mr. Stoney to publicly agree not to accept any of McAuliffes funds including funds from McAuliffes contributors.
A spokesman for Stoneys campaign, Matt Corridoni, brushed off Morrisseys attack.
Unfortunately he is choosing to take political pot shots and right now our focus is taking our vision straight to the people of Richmond, Corridoni said.
We will not be taking ethics suggestions from Joe Morrissey. Morrissey has had his own high profile run-ins with investigators, serving a three-month work release sentence last year for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Good.
When you read all this stuff, you are left wondering if there is a SINGLE HONEST PERSON LEFT in government today. Indeed, our “leaders” on both sides seem to delight in swimming in the one big sewage treatment pond that is politcs today!
THEN FLUSH THE RINO RIGHT...
“PULL THE LEVER...FLUSH THE LEFT....
THEN FLUSH THE RINO RIGHT...”
They’re all in the same “pool!” One lever pull, does it all!
LOL so that’s why the slime ball decreed that felons can vote in VA. He wants to vote when he gets out of the Big House.
