My husbands raises rodeo Bulls. He has had them buck so hard they break their backs. Tragic, I understand how these owners feel.

“How sad “

Yes it is, an totallly unnecessary. Horse Racing is just like Dog Racing, it’s abusive to the animals involved. Again, it’s all about money! In Dog Racing, when the dogs no longer are “competive,” they’re killed!

Doesn’t seem natural to me. The odds seem very long on these events taking place on the same day.

Contributing factors...

Overdosed on stimulants? They really need to do a full series of tests.

Outlaw horse races, and that won’t happen

You could outlaw horse racing, and then there would be very few thoroughbreds around, and those mainly for show and dressage. Some of them would die prematurely. So, thousands of horses would be pre-aborted and never live at all.

Working horses, pet horses and wild horses all die, and usually not from old age. It would be safest to outlaw any horses existing all. Then none would die. Everything that lives will die, including you. That's no reason to deny living things their chance at a life.

HomeBoyKris....could it have been a drive by shooting?

I know, I know. Poor taste. It’s very sad. It breaks my heart when I see a horse’s leg flopping in the wind. That happened today, too. The horse was put down on the track.

Sad, but they will be examined carefully for cause of death.

Looked up the stats.

53 horses died racing in 2014, in 41,277 races.

Average field per race is about 10 horses.

So, 53 horses died in about 413,000 track runs.

Chance of death in any one race for a horse: .000128.

Horses dying on the track draws serious scrutiny. Horsemen take their horses seriously. Investigations will occur and the jockey will be questioned about the horses behavior during the race.

I wonder if he ran without Lasix. Many horses can outrun what their bodies can’t handle and they develop Pulmonary Edema. Horses prone to that are given lasix some hours before the races.
