A Tennessee lawman who posted an Easter message and other religious-themed comments on Facebook said Tuesday he is ready for a legal showdown with an atheist group that accused him of violating the Constitution.
Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson, who had the message posted on the departments Facebook page on Easter, said he is considering a countersuit against American Atheists and a woman identified as Jane Doe, after they sued him in federal court over the message.
"Today is one of the most historic days; not only did Jesus die on the cross for our sins, but he rose on this day, read the post. Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice, and offered himself for our sins. This day represents the best gift any of us could receive, which is 'Eternal Life' with our Heavenly Father."
Watson says the response to the post has been overwhelmingly positive.

If only Christians invested as much effort in demonstrating the existence of God as the atheists do.
Amen
The constitution allows freedom OF religion.
NOT freedom FROM religion.
Article the third... Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
MY SHERIFF !!!!
great guy !!!
he was in the Tennessee legislation for a few years until he retired to run for sheriff...
wasn’t in my district but I got to vote for him for sheriff...
In the TN Govt he was constantly a strong Conservative...
:)
Sheriff Eric Watson is a Sheriff Joe type...
He will stand up to them...
:)
He has all the support of Murray county residents just over the line.
Good to hear!
He should counterclaim: violating of his First Amendment rights. Speech and religion
Fight back against these bastards. It’s the only language they know.
If only it had been a happy Eid elFitr day message, they would have been cool with it.
A person has the right to face their accuser, according to the Constitution.
Excellent point and I pray the Sheriff is going ahead with his counter suit. It’s about time these bastards get stopped.
What district was he in?
Exactly.
I often wondered how easy it was for the left to remove GOD from the public square. It has become clearer over the past few years.
Those that should have defended us from the left were actually on their side. The left sat on both sides of the table.
Every time I hear of some government body giving in to the latest demand of the ACLU I know the government representative wanted to do what the ACLU wanted but needed the cover of a possible lawsuit.
So much ground was lost due to this tactic that I wonder if we will have get it back again (without a lot of blood shed).
It is impossible for any individual to violate the 1st Amendment to the Constitution.
The 1st Amendment forbids only one group from taking certain specified actions. The group is Congress, and Congress is forbidden from passing any laws having to do with (that is what respecting means) an establishment of religion or the free exercise thereof.
Essentially, it means that there are to be NO federal laws having anything to do with either of those things. That, in turn, means that those issues are for the States.
But, over the years, the USSC has so twisted the meaning of the amendment to make it mean the opposite of what it means.

another good Conservative man I’ve known for years, Dan Howell, has that seat now...
Atheists are the children of Marx, and the enemies of America.
I’m down with this
