More than 60 people have been killed by lightning over the past two days during tropical storms across Bangladesh, local media said Saturday. Most of the 64 lightning deaths since Thursday have occurred in rural Bangladesh, where farmers are busy with the current harvesting season, leading Bengali-language newspapers Prothom Alo and Samakal reported. The reports of casualties could not be verified independently, with lightning deaths not usually monitored by government agencies. Experts say increased deforestation and people's exposure to metal equipment like cellphones are the reasons behind lightning deaths in Bangladesh.

These don’t sound like the people likely to own cell phones, which I doubt are lightning attractors in the first place.
Uh, let’s see. De-forestation and climate discombobulation are the culprits. Alrighty then.
Had a friend many years ago (when I was a young teen) who was struck by lightning and killed instantly, just crossing a street. Was out in the open, crossing a four lane road.
When your number’s up, it’s up...
Maybe they were playing golf at one of the Trump courses and using a 1 iron without knowing that God is the only one who can hit a 1 iron.
I have been very close to a lightning strike, but inside essentially what was a Faraday cage. Caught out in the open in a sudden storm on a farm tractor, with an implement called a flail chopper and pulling a high=rack wagon behind, I got off the tractor and took shelter beneath the wagon, to get out of the pounding rain. The high rack, an all-metal design, was the highest point, and I could feel the static building up around me. When lightning struck the thunderclap was deafening, and faded away with a diminishing sound, due to the Doppler effect, I suppose.
Needless to say, I was not about to budge before the rain stopped completely. Got back on the tractor, soaked to the bone, and drove it back to the buildings.
The good Lord looks out for fools, drunks, children and Americans.
In before the “Climate Change will be the death of us all” crowd.
Yeah, "experts". Nothing to do with that country's average IQ being 82, islam and them not knowing that they shouldn't take cover under the supposedly few remaining trees during thunderstorms. No, must be the cell phones.
My guess is that being pressed to continue working during thunderstorms is more of the cause than cellphones.
You really think there's a bunch of Freepers who ascribe to that?
they spoke too loudly for Cruz and Kasich
A young guy at work has gotten hit by lightning twice recently. He’s fine.
Not something you see very often.
I think he was fishing both times.
God targeting muzzies who kill monks?
lol, God is great!
Well, I hope not. It is the BIGGEST scam out there.
That’s a great tale!
I myself was very near a lightning strike on top of Mt. Tyndall in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
It was so close it felt like getting punched in the chest, like air being sucked out or forced into my lungs.
The rocks around me actually “sang” as the static electricity built up. That was my first clue, and my last.
Anyone else ever hear that noise? Folks think I’m making up that part.
