I agree. Perhaps the threat of tariffs was a warning shot, a negotiating ploy, more than anything else. Ditto the proposal to renegotiate the debt service. Focussing their minds in a way that only a good negotiator can.
We do need to fight back, and there are so many ways to do so. Tariffs should be a last resort, or perhaps a limited one, IMHO.
As to bringing jobs home, I think Trump's tax plan, the reduction in corporate tax, the one-time 10% incentive to bring overseas profits home, combined with the removal of some egregious regulations, will stunt the exodus of jobs, if not bring many of them back home, and unlike tariffs, won't ask the consumer to pay for it.
More tariffs, less income taxes. We do to them what they do to us. That is fair trade.
