I read somewhere, probably many years ago that it is common for restaurants to sell squid pretending it is clams.

Growing up, we would sometimes look at the Spanish stations (Channels 41 and 47 in those days) from NJ to watch Professional Wrestling.
ALL the advertisements seemed to be Goya this and Goya that. Later in college in Chicago, the grocery aisles were filled with Goya Goya Goya. Most prominent was a mysterious looking drink called Goya Malta India. Empties were all over the city. Eventually, I succumbed to curiosity and tried some. Bl-urrrgh-fff! Never again. Years later, when the Mexican ice cream man came along singing the praises of jalapeno frozen ices, I knew better.

I eat squid and octopus, but it’s not canned; it’s usually fresh or frozen if it’s octopus or dried if it’s squid.
When it isn’t prepared right it’s terrible; and when it done right, it delish.

Most prominent was a mysterious looking drink called Goya Malta India. Very popular in Puerto Rico-- it's malt soda, basically non-alcoholic, non-hopped dark beer.
