“’My main job is to keep my job, to get reelected. It takes precedence over everything.’”

Thus the absolute requirement for STRICT term limits, no exceptions. Politics should not be a career. Ever. Further, it is way, way past time that the American public stop believing that people in public office are somehow smarter than the rest of society. The reality is quite the opposite. There are surely bright people, but also many very shallow people whose primary skill set is the ability to bs well. That's not what we need to secure a prosperous and happy future.

Three 4-year terms. There’s a learning curve, and at some level they’re operating at a disadvantage with respect to the permanent government bureaucracy.

Term limits, like campaign finance regulation, only stifles free speech. We already have term limits - it's called VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT. Otherwise, I can't join the chorus of so-called "Conservatives" seeing to stifle my freedom of speech. Doesn't seem very "Conservative".
