WASHINGTON Donald Trump declared Wednesday he doesn't need support from House Speaker Paul Ryan or other leery Republican leaders, brushing off his Capitol Hill critics even as he prepared to sit down with them. His defiant message came amid new signs that he might be right, with GOP voters becoming more willing to embrace the New York billionaire.
Their public differences are overshadowing the GOP rank and file's movement toward Trump and his own efforts to broaden his appeal as the general election campaign takes shape.
"If we make a deal, that will be great," Trump told Fox News Channel when asked about Thursday's meeting with Ryan, who has so far refused to endorse him. "And if we don't, we will trudge forward like I've been doing and winning all the time."

The only “Republicans” standing in the way of Trump are the “inside the beltway” types. They do not want to see the old corrupt status quo go away. They are going to get steam rolled.
“His defiant message.....”
He is NOT being defiant, he is simply be factual.
Ryan is such a leader. The contest is over and he is still weighing his options. Weasel Ryan
to borrow a phrase, after their meeting tomorrow Ryan is going to realize he’s inside the coffin too
Trump has defiant message, not Ryan?
“Almost two in three Republican-leaning voters now view Trump favorably, compared to 31 percent who view him unfavorably, according to a national Gallup Poll taken last week. The numbers represent a near reversal from Gallup’s survey in early March.”

IIRC this reversal happened in Iowa as well. To know him is to love him! ;-)
That’s perfect.
Take heart, I and many I know hate Trump but will vote for him...these polls aren’t asking the right questions.
The only thing that might stop these Trump voters are these comments from Trump Supporters that they have no choice or the continued name calling of people hate Trump.
Hey, we can hate the guy and still vote for him. I don’t have to love him.
So when you see someone shooting off their wild wicked vile attacks because someone doesn’t like Trump, put them in check.....it isn’t helping and it doesn’t matter.
“I think the number of people/Republicans supporting Trump is actually much higher.”
I agree. Many Trump supporters I run into are very shy about admitting it, especially women. They are reluctant to share the fact that they like Trump because anti Trump people are very rude and insulting and imply that supporting Trump makes you racist, mysogonist and stupid. Anti Trump people usually say something like “Why? He’s a clown!” Or, “I thought only trailer trash supported Donald Trump”.
I’m even a bit cautious at times and I am extremely outspoken and like to argue with strangers about politics!
As more and more people realize they are not alone in their circles of acquaintances - that others share their favorable view of Trump, the vocal support is really picking up speed.
I notice that after the primary here in PA, I overhear people making positive statements because they realize he’s actually quite popular among a silent majority. People like his unguarded sense of humor and enjoy the way he talks in public the same way most normal people talk amongst their friends.
And it’s not just Republicans. Many laborers, tradesmen and contractors that would normally be robotically democrat are all in for Trump. These are often the ‘cool’ joke telling type people who are fun to agree with, so I think there is a certain viral nature to this phenomenon.
It took me quite a while to come out publicly, declaring in December. I have joked that before then I always waited for the secret handshake and exchange of password and countersign.
I suspect the Bradley/Wilder effect will be significant here with actual votes in November at least 5 points ahead of the latest polls.
Trump Alternate Delegate - Maryland CD-04.
Me too. How can the ‘conservatives’ who voted for McCain, Dole, and Romney be in the ‘never Trump’ crowd.
I voted for Cruz, but he can’t be more treacherous with his crossing over to the Dems side as McCain was. He is a bit of an unknown, but those three were well known for their Dem collaboration.
