What I Want for All Moms on Mother’s Day: A Universal Basic Income
Medium.com ^ | 5/11/2016 | Anna Oman

Posted on 05/11/2016 12:32:23 PM PDT by GilGil

Imagine if everyone was guaranteed healthcare and an income floor. People would still pursue their calling in life. In fact, they could do so more freely with more creativity and daring without the fear of not making ends meet. It would unleash the enormous creative potential that lays dormant within the hearts and minds of so many office workers, toiling away as their best ideas and dreams wither away.

This article is so wrong on so many levels I do not know where to start. Mind boggling.

I have friends in Europe who tell me it is possible in Germany to go through an entire lifetime not having worked a single day. Same is true for Spain. Europe is totally falling apart because of universal this and universal that. The society is disintegrating because of the ravages of socialism and this Anna Oman wants the same here. The last I want is to make it easier for her to breed. No thanks!

People would still pursue their calling in life.

Watching Maury Povich and drinking malt liquour.

Then you have Americans who would sit on their ass. They'd get the check on the first and be broke by the 4th, then complain they need a raise. You have people who wouldn't lift a finger, kinda like today and let everyone else work. Imagine if EVERYONE quit work and just collected a check. Where would the government get the now non-existent tax money to pay for this scheme?

Gonna happen here. It’s inevitable.
All the political winds blowing that way.
Even before robots take 90% of the jobs.

Yeah, to lay around all day eating Doritos and surfing for Golden Girls episodes, or WorldStar HipHop. Or both.

When I was in college I needed an "A" in an ethics course I had to take.

I thought to myself, "What is the stupidest, most ridiculous feel-good thing I could write about for my thesis.?"

So I decided to invent the system described here.

It was stupid enough to get me an "A."

This argument is often made by the Left, but it simply isn't true. Creative people create regardless of their circumstances. Non-creative people cannot create anything of value, no matter what government stipends are thrown at them.

I did more creative work when I was putting in 40-50 hour weeks in an office than I do now as a small business owner with much more control over my time.

What I want for Mothers Day is a vibrant, booming economy that provides a surplus of good paying, rewarding jobs with a future that allow any worker who feels they are not being treated or valued fairly to at ant time give their boss the finger and walk across the street to get a better paying job more in line with their skills

Don’t worry about those great ideas withering away. You’re just “unlucky” according to D’bama and no amount of work is going to change that. Accept your fate you worthless pile of excrement.

I’m not one of them, but certain people on the RIGHT side of the aisle support this idea.

- Pro-traditional family groups, wanting to encourage the idea of stay-at-home moms and of intact families having more children.

- A minority of deficit hawks. Conceding that a certain portion of your population is going to end up on welfare anyway, cutting to the chase and just cutting them a lump-sum check every month would eliminate dozens of overlapping welfare programs, and allow a lot of bureaucracies, bureaucrats and spending to be cut.

Milton Friedman among others advocated the latter point.

And frankly we are going to reach a stage where so many jobs are automated that this will become the only way to avert social chaos.

I would be more than happy to discuss such a system if it included the following:

1. Something in return for the income provided - jury duty, working as an extra at the DMV office, etc.
2. A method for suspension/banning from it for misuse of the income and/or criminal activity. Get caught using your UBI for drugs or commit a violent crime, poof, there it goes.

Is nothing sacred?

Why Do liberals have to politicize EVERYTHING?

I have fond memories of the country back when politics hadn’t yet become the cancer that destroys everything else.

There was a time we could enjoy music, movies, and TV without nasty, hard-core politics being injected into just about every experience.

Leftists today are like rabid ankle-biting dogs.
They just won’t let it go.

You would think they might have learned something from the Dixie Chicks but it doesn’t appear so.

"Even before robots take 90% of the jobs."

Robots taking jobs is no different than slaves taking the jobs in Rome. We're on the same glide-path with an elite few scattered across the Empire control almost all the wealth and the little people who aren't slaves exist on bread and circuses.

Gonna happen here. It’s inevitable.

It can't happen here. It can't happen anywhere. Socialist fantasies are just that - fantasies. They aren't economically sustainable.
