Wrecking balls, downtown construction
Bottles breaking, jukebox buzzing
Cardboard sign says the lord is coming
Tick, tick, tock
Rumors turn the mills back home
Parking lot kids with the speakers blown
We didn't turn it on but we can't turn it off, off, off
Sometimes I wonder how did we get here
Seems like all we ever hear is
Noise
Yeah we scream, yeah we shout 'til we don't have a voice
In the streets, in the crowds, it ain't nothing but noise
Drowning out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy
Just tryna be heard in all this noise
Twenty-four hour television, get so loud that no one listens
Sex and money and politicians talk, talk, talk
But there really ain't no conversation
Ain't nothing left to the imagination
Trapped in our phones and we can't make it stop, stop
This noise
Yeah we scream, yeah we shout 'til we don't have a voice
In the streets, in the crowds, it ain't nothing but noise
Drowning out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy
Just tryin to be heard in all this noise
Every room, every house, every shade of noise
All the floors, all the walls, they all shake with noise
We can't sleep, we can't think, can't escape the noise
We can't take the noise, so we just make
Noise
Yeah we scream, yeah we shout 'til we don't have a voice
In the streets, in the crowds, it ain't nothing but noise
Drowning out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy
Just tryna be heard in all this noise
All this noise
Can't take the noise
Can't take the noise
Can't stand the noise
Can't take the noise
Four songwriters?
Reminds me of what C.S. Lewis wrote in “The Screwtape Letters” so long ago—his subject, Screwtape the Demon, was bragging to his nephew Wormwood how “noise” was a tool of Hell to keep humankind and the creation in confusion.
Here is the quote from the demon Screwtape:
“Music and silence how I detest them both! How thankful we should be that ever since our Father entered Hell though longer ago than humans, reckoning in light years, could express no square inch of infernal space and no moment of infernal time has been surrendered to either of those abominable forces, but all has been occupied by Noise Noise, the grand dynamism, the audible expression of all that is exultant, ruthless, and virile Noise which alone defends us from silly qualms, despairing scruples, and impossible desires. We will make the whole universe a noise in the end.”
yeah, but give it a view. fine video, edited perfectly to the lyric.
Watch this Kenny Chesney video...The team in the Columbia blue is Gibbs High School in Knoxville, TN...Kenny’s Alma Mater...
I coached football there a few years before Kenny played...
This is a great video for any former player or fan...

Sounds like U2 went to Nashville.
I guess it’s alright for a pop song.
Give kenny chesney a pen and a paper bag and he could not write his way out of it
Four songwriters?

That’s how it’s done in Nashville, nowadays. Actually for years now.
Songwriting by committee. Songwriting for the express purpose of churning out million dollar songs. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
There was an analysis done, I think it was posted here within the last couple of years, wherein 4 songs were juxtaposed, take the verse from one, the chorus from another, the bridge from another ... and it sounded almost like it was meant to be.
I think the perspective isn’t that of a Luddite, but that being overwhelmed by the stuff is contrary to human relationships.
The people at the end of the video aren’t destroying their technology. Rather, they are stepping away from it for a while.
CS Lewis used the radio, the “noise” of his day, but he also spent time in his study and with his family and friends.
Isn’t that the point, then?
I’ve long had a visceral distaste for the man. Kind of a con man vibe about him.
I pick up three country stations where I’m at and this friggin’ song is constantly on all of them, along with Tim McGraw “Humble and Kind.” Those two crappy songs account for, honestly, about 40% of non-commercials airtime.

Yup.
I was told, here on FR, that Chesney is a leftist.
Thus I do not like him.
