Yeah it died in the last 2 budgets when the RINOs funded every god darn piece of obummer’s agenda!

Oh, I’m just as foul mouthed. And if I had his kind of bankroll I’d probably engage in the same kind of behavior. My comments are strictly that the Republican Party really can’t claim a lot of moral high ground at this time.

Yeah, when it comes time to save the country give me someone who can do it, profanity, multiple divorces and all. But if I had a son speaking about *ANY* woman the way he has, on the record and in public, they wouldn’t be sitting for a while and would darn well know what soap tasted like.

I do *NOT* find vulgar language refreshing; however hearing English Only would more than make up for it :-)

I can recall two other catastrophic years.

1986 - The Reagan Amnesty

How did that work out? If Reagan ran for governor of California in 2016, he would have zero chance of winning.

2005 - GWB nominated RINO Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court, and then he tried to stuff Amnesty down our throats.

Those two events ignited the Conservative Rebellion, and it began right here on the pages of Free Republic.

Freepers literally crushed that nomination and Amnesty, and nothing in the GOP has been the same since then.

I don’t blame Trump.

Never forget GHB called the NRA "A Bunch of Jack Booted Thugs".

It goes back way further than that when Lincoln failed to keep us out of a war between American brothers, and called it a civil war.

yeah, too bad Abe forced those eleven states at gunpoint to secede from the Union, and then to fire on a Federal fort...

Newsflash for everyone, a party with a majority in Congress, state legislatures, and Governorships, cannot be called “dead”.

And we would be much better off today if Pat Buchanan had been nominated instead of GHW Bush.<<<<

I agree. I voted for Pat, but not enough people saw the wisdom in doing so.

Pat saw the trouble coming from way back, but he didn’t have the brass ones that Trump has. He did have some good policies for the nation though.

I remember Pat made a lot more sense than Bush ever did.

I didn’t recall the details of Pat’s position on Israel but I will always support Israel.

Other than that, Pat made so much more sense and put America first.

IMHO it died in 1996 when they had a vulnerable, corrupt, scandal-plagued POTUS ripe for the picking, and yet they nominated an ambulatory corpse because “it was his turn”.

Very true

It died under Nixon.

It was sick after Nixon but revived and healthy with Reagan. Bush murdered it.

I agree that it was Bush 1 that started the downward slide. Instead of finishing off the Democrat party, they follow up the most successful conservative ever with some milquetoast, wobbly-need “moderate” that got railroaded by the dems.

Yup

Yep, and it was Bush Jr, by way of Rove who embraced the lobbyists like GROVER NORQUIST and let them write his amnesty and fill his white house with their ISLAM loving cronies.

Who else were they going to nominate?

Who else could have won?

There isn't always a good candidate available and not every election is winnable.

When parties die, it's more because the people they do elect turn off the public in a big way, not because one losing candidate doesn't click with the people.

If Pat could have controlled his antisemitism he would have been President.

It died under Nixon.

Then it died before it was even born.

Ike's GOP -- what was there for Nixon to kill off -- wasn't something conservative purists loved.

Indeed, I am a tax slave and have been all my life. I am tired of being swindled by the DC lawyers who have hijacked our personal healthcare and so many other freedoms. Imagine how much better off we would be if lawyers were restricted to serving only in the judicial branch of government. Think about it.

Maybe it would have been better for the Democrats to be holding the bag after 9/11. There would have been NO way to blame it on Republicans, and it’s not like the end result could have been worse - a fiasco of a war, money and blood spilled to little avail, WMD’s spirited away. Regardless of the bravery of our soldiers the Bush follow through was as bad as deliberate Democrat skullduggery could have been.

You’ve got a good point there. I never thought about that. Also, Gore would have been bad but nowhere near as bad as Obama. So we could possibly have had a mediocre leftist followed by a true conservative rather than a mediocre conservative followed by a true leftist.
