Campaign chief to oversee Trump U.S. vice presidential search (Lewandowski)

Donald Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, will oversee the presumptive Republican U.S. presidential nominee's search for a running mate, a campaign aide said on Tuesday.

Lewandowski last week took over the vice presidential selection process and is drawing up a list of potential candidates and speaking with Republican Party figures, two top Republicans told the Washington Post, which first reported the move.

The two Republicans said they expected lawyers or a law firm to help vet Trump's short list of candidates, the Post reported.

The Trump campaign aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Lewandowski is leading the effort but would not elaborate.

Trump has said he is considering some of his former rivals for the Republican nomination. But some already have ruled themselves out or declared they will not support the billionaire businessman. One of those was U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, who on Monday sought to quash speculation he might emerge as the running mate, saying he still has deep reservations about Trump.

Trump has bristled at Republicans who publicly have taken themselves out of the running. The day after Rubio's announcement, Trump wrote in a Twitter post, "It is only the people that were never asked to be VP that tell the press that they will not take the position."

Trump has said he plans to select a Republican with political experience as his choice for vice president.

I do not consider no show party animals from the Senate qualified. Trump needs a person with a work ethic, and who has demonstrated they take the oath of office to heart.

Sounds like Carson overstepped his bounds.

Time for Carson to drive to the Pyramids and get a little grain for his friend "Bud".

Think Lewandowski's role is a good move.

Things have changed....and roles have to change. It's why you hire diverse people...but more importantly...people you trust. Can't say that enough.

I’m really surprised that Rubio is being such a jerk. And to think, just not too long ago he was my candidate. Wow!

From what I hear, Carson is heading to Washington to warm up Paul Ryan for Trump's meeting with him. Excellent idea.

The use of Lewandowski to find a good running mate gives the impression that Trump recognizes that he not only needs someone who will help after he wins but someone who strengthens the ticket so as to help beat Hillary.

I don’t get any impression that Mattis wants in on this political Circus/ Slaughterhouse/ Massage Parlor.
Maybe he’s feigning disinterest for now.

Trump will need someone with foreign policy experience.

He also needs someone not associated with the Bush foreign policy and that rules out most high ranking civilians.

Mattis is probably the best choice. He was replaced by Obama as head of Central Command because he was too aggressive.

I’ve always gotten the impression that Donald simply wants to give Carson ‘busywork’ to keep him harmlessly occupied. These ‘busywork’ duties being preferred to having Carson (the respected surgeon and sole Black candidate) as an enemy.
Carson still has a contingency that could ‘make trouble’ for Donald if they were directed by Carson to support someone other than Trump. Lewandowski is there to get the job done, but now knows he also needs to act less impulsively, and stay out of the headlines.
