Cameron on 'Brexit': 'Isolationism has never served this country well'

British Prime Minister David Cameron has outlined his "big, bold, patriotic case" for the UK to stay in the European Union, saying that the country would be weaker and less-equipped to combat terrorism if it voted to leave.

In a speech Monday at the British Museum in London, Cameron argued that Britain's strength and security was inextricably linked to events in Europe -- and its ability to wield influence there. "Britain has always been a European power, and we always will be," he said.

Splendid Isolation seemed to serve the British well during the Victorian Era. Britain might of remained a world power if it stayed out of WW I.

Very true, as the Kaiser had no designs on the British Empire.

Cameron is full of crap. Leaving the EU & reasserting your national sovereignty could hardly be construed as “Isolationist”.

How could Cameron be considered anything but a leftist? Well, it is the UK.

I read a book about WW2, from a German perspective. Of course it was self-serving...but it offered a different perspective. The British were very worried about Germany’s rising economic and naval power.

Looking at the start of the war through that lens, its hard to imagine that the Brits could have ‘stayed out of it’, since behind the scenes they may have been instrumental in setting the stage.

Not a German apologist...but really the world was a screwed up cauldron of monarchies and colonialism - lots of blame to go around.

Isolation kept the Nazis out of England

Pretty sad, isn't it? The Brits withstood the Nazi bombardments in WW2 and now its leaders want to hand the real estate to Merkel.

Just “isolate” muslims. They’re the enemy.

Another moronic strawman argument.

How does self determination and independence equate with isolationism?

Even if it did, isolationism has to eat the hell out of importing millions of moose limbs.

Geography isolated the British.

And it served them well through the ages, right up to Hitler’s failure to mount a cross-Channel invasion in WWII.

But politically correct idiocy has now opened the doors to invasion and the ultimate destruction of their nation.

LOL. The history of Britain from the time its kings lost their French possessions until World War I was a history of splendid isolation from Europe. They jumped in here and there when the balance of power was tilting too far toward one power but otherwise consciously weren’t a European power. For Camer-moron to say what he said is laughable. Besides, why is it “isolationism” to not want to be saddled with another layer of big government that opposes the will of the people.
