I don’t believe in conscription, but if we must have it, why not 4 years across the board in whatever endeavor. That would be more fair to me.

I've always self-identified as a conservative. But if putting Clinton in office by running a 3rd party candidate is "conservative", then I'm not one. What I am becoming is ANTI-LEFT. That takes it all in, religion, abortion, political correctness, military strength, immigration...on and on. For me, it is becoming a more reliable life compass. It isn't a party and it isn't an ideology...but it is what I've become. I think this is what Trump represents.

Not all Trump's views are pure conservative, neither are mine. But almost all his views are "America First." Not voting for him and letting Clinton in may be "conservative"...but it is NOT anti-left. Doing anything that puts Clinton in office is LEFT. Keeping her out of office and in jail is Anti-Left. So in this case, the beltway conservatives are "leftists" and they are no different to me than Clinton or Sanders, Pelosi and Reid. Where does Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnel fall? Lefties all.

The more I hear about the "conservatives," who are NOT supporting what people of all demographics in 27 states have voted for, the more Anti-Left I become. These "conservative mavens" are telling us they know better than us. "Sometimes the people don't know what's right"...Bill Kristol on Laura Ingraham May 6, 2916.

Try on "Anti Left"...it may fit you better than "conservative."

The neo-con artists and their open-borders toadies, who are behind the #nevertrump effort, migrated from the democrat party like an invasive virus in the 1980’s. They are perfectly comfortable with Hillary winning, because Hillary has proved her worth to them with her support for open-borders, and her Libyan adventure. The neo-con artists never were “conservative” they supported all the liberal social issues of the democrat party, however, they were skillful at convincing a large swath of republicans that endless wars in the Middle East was a “conservative value” and that greed stoked by cheap labor was the other “conservative value”.

The Republicans who’re now opposing Mr. Trump and saying they won’t vote for him, will vote for the Witch, and/or are contemplating a third party run against him are not just indulging themselves in evil, infantile, self-destructive tantrums. Instead, and far worse, their actions are un-American and anti-constitutional. They propose to enable an habitual criminal to become President and to assure that anti-American communist criminal will be able to remake the Constitution in her own vile form by appointing as many as five Supreme Court justices, who will hold their positions for the next generation. Nothing could be worse.

We have the 13th Amendment that prohibits involuntary servitude:

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

The idea that the state owns us is an abomination. Live free or die!

The problem is that whomever is picked, IF someone is fool enough to take the position, will forever be known and reviled for having elected Hillary - and they will own every disaster that she creates.

“They need to accept the fact that the American people are staging a revolution at the ballot box and stop interfering. Or they can get ready for the kind of revolution that oppressed people rise to when they’ve finally had enough.

Right now, they still have a choice. I hope they choose wisely.”

JFK said that “those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.”

“They” should be very careful about what they do in a nation with 400 million guns.

The idea would be with the 4-3-2 program, 4 years, close to home, doing community service type work, 3 years with some displacement, such overseas in unpleasant areas, peace corps, 2 years in military, where you can get shot us.

Military could still offer 3 and 4 year commitments to get guaranteed certain training, etc.

If you are not prepared to serve and defend the other citizens of your country, why do you expect them to protect you.

The concept of “common good” goes waaaaay back.

If you are not prepared to serve and defend the other citizens of your country,

I'm more willing to do so than you are. And the greatest enemy is a state that will conscript and impress it's citizens, not in a time of existential peril, but as a universal matter of course and at it's whim. Your precious liberty, and that of your children, not to mention your mind, soul and body, it's perpetual communist eminant domain.

I'd fight that enemy to the death.

“I'm more willing to do so than you are.”

How would you possibly know how willing I am to serve and defend my country? Or did? Even more so, why must it be comparative?

Why are you so against National Service? No, it's not some perpetual communist eminent domain. It won us WWII and saved the world. It was called "The Draft." Why would you be against a system where young people serve their country in a manner of their choice?

Those who did not want to leave their homes could work for 4 years improving their towns and cities, helping those who need it, seniors, building public buildings, etc. They would learn a trade, discipline, and most of all, self respect that comes from getting up in the morning and doing something productive.

A second group could choose 3 year service in something that was not as comfortable, but non-combatant, such as Peace Corps work overseas, work in our national forests ,etc.

A third group could chose 2 years in military service.

The bottom line is, in my 6 years in the Active Army, including two tours in RVN, and 30 in the IRR, with the exception of war wounds, I never met anyone who's life was not made better by their National Service.

If nothing else, it would help erase the current minority attitude of “Whitey owes me because.....”

By the way, in your “About” page, you personally define a Conservative as “One who believes in the total depravity of mankind, including one’s self.”

The dictionary describes “depraved” as “morally corrupt.” I would never call myself, JR, RR, nor 99% of the people here “morally corrupt.”

Do you define yourself as that?

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

If we weren't sinners we wouldn't need governing. Over the course of history, the power and oppression of governments are proportional to the corruption of the people. We get what we deserve.

We all get what we deserved, and JR and RR, and every FReeper did NOT deserve for someone like you to call them “depraved.”

In your position, I would consider my self lucky and blessed to NOT get what I deserve for such a comment.

Lots of noise in the press about how strong the Libertarian party is. The Libertarian party has not selected a nominee yet.

Regarding your thought process about Biblical commandments; I might recommend Deuteronomy 23:1 NRSV to you.

Lest somebody get the idea, "oh the globalist couldn't work in the libertarian party," they couldn;t work in Bill Buckley's National review either. The party label is irrelevant, and the players are smart enough to craft rhetoric to suit the purpose.

Globalist interest are decidedly #NeverTrump. Hillary or anybody the DEMs put up is vastly superior, and all the spolier has to do is deny Trump a majority of electoral votes.
