Firefighters battle a four-alarm fire in the historic Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava in Manhattan.
The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church said Wednesday he finds it strange at best that four of the religions sanctuaries went up in flames on the same exact day
Anything can be suspected including that the fires were started on purpose and were not accidental, Patriarch Irinej told Belgrade-based weekly Nedeljnik.
It is strange that four of our (Orthodox Christian) churches burned at the same time on three different continents, he said. We still dont know if someone set them on fire in an organized way.
Churches in Russia and Australia also caught fire that day.
On May 1, the Annunciation of Our Lady Greek Orthodox Church in Melbourne, Australia, went up in flames.

Worried that the incidents could all be connected, Serbian Consul in New York Mirjana Zivkovic on Wednesday said the Serbian Embassy in Washington has decided to reach out to the US State Department, asking for all results of the FDNYs investigation to be reviewed by the consulate.
Many people in the Christian Orthodox community believe the blazes at St. Sava and in Russia and Australia may have been set in retaliation for Pope Francis recent decision to postpone the canonization of Croatian Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac, an infamous Nazi supporter.
Francis chose to stop the ceremony from happening last week after the Serbian Orthodox Church and Patriarch Irinej himself urged the pontiff to consider Stepinacs notorious past.
Orthodox Christians ultimately fear that the churches may have all been set on fire by Stepinac supporters fuming over the popes decision.

If wasn’t candles
that Is for Sure
If it was not a candle, than you have to look at it as being arson.
bmp
After all, it was only
FOUR different churches
on THREE different continents
ON THE SAME DAY.
I wrote over 9 months ago that its way past time to guard our churches and synagogues 24/7.
And “guard” doesn’t mean making a phone call.
Coincidence?
Not likely.
Not quite in the same league as insisting that it was only three different buildings in two American cities on one day, but not-so-strangely lacking in any credibility if from “it was that video” administration.
I do believe the Aussie NAILED it : )
He sure did.
Did you know that "then" and "than" are different words?
