Bad news for Tampa Bay. The conservative/moderate newspaper folds and the far left one stays. I thought I'd never have to read that liberal rag ever again. Just D@mn.

Great..we are a one newspaper town now. We won’t be able to tell the difference the front page and the editorial page.

All the useless verbiage in the above report fails to mention the fact that the two newspapers are at polar opposites politically. The St Pete Times has been an unapologetic socialist rag forever, while the Tribune has always taken a more centrist position on news reporting. This is a disgrace. When we are about to demolish the left-wing socialist choke-hold on Washington DC and the nation, Tampa’s only responsible adult newspaper falls to the socialist rag across the Bay.

You don’t.

This is symptomatic of the actions of the Oh Look At Me Administration. Under most Presidents, the FTC would move to thwart this move because it clearly hurts competition and hurts the consuming public. Under Oh Look At Me, any merger or acquisition that benefits his one-size-fits-all-Communist plan is allowed to take place.

I have to agree with you. We recently moved back to Tampa and I was happy to get the Tampa Tribune once again. I appreciated its Conservative bent and much preferred it to the blatantly liberal Times. Hopefully, they will keep some of those columnists and commentary from Conservatives. If they don’t then I will cancel my yearly subscription.

Well, looks like I'll be dropping the Trib. All I have left is the Lakeland, FL. Ledger. Not quite as far left as the St. Pete (Tampa Bay) Times, but it is the local rag.

This, just in time for the elections. The St. Pete Pravda will be spewing their far, far left orthodoxy throughout the Bay Area and Central Florida.

Thank heavens there's the Orlando Sentinel...oh, wait a minute. Mirror of St. Pete Pravda.

The irony is that Tampa used to be a two newspaper town - the morning Tampa Tribune and the evening Tampa Daily Times. In 1958, the Tribune bought the Tampa Daily Times and continued publishing both until 1982.

An old friend will be missed. Tampa residents will want the Tribune back after they get tired of the St. Pete Times and their liberal crap.

When it was the St Petersburg Times, we called it the “Suncoast Pravda”, but at least the Tampa Tribune was to their right. Being owned by a Foundation, The Pointer Institute, appears to give this liberal rag a better financial hand in this area and the fact is that no metropolitan area outside the really big cities like NYC has multiple viable newspapers.

I too am to blame as I, who once delivered newspapers from my bicycle, have not subscribed to one for years. When I was living in my Condo, I had to be waiting for it to keep it from going missing! Now, with the internet, I don’t feel any more deprived than when I stopped subscribing to the ‘news’ magazines like Time or Newsweek.

Oh no! Terrible news.

This is indeed a sad day for Tampa area journalism as the Tampa Bay Times isn’t even appropriate for use while cleaning fish. There is no longer a moderate-to-conservative newspaper in Florida.
