With a little over eight weeks remaining until nominating petitions have to be filed, two Democratic Party candidates seeking the District 2 congressional seat are continuing to campaign.
Both Victoria Steele and Dr. Matt Heinz are gathering signatures to get on the Aug. 30 primary ballot. The winner of that election is expected to face incumbent Republican, congresswoman Martha McSally. McSally is currently unopposed in her bid for re-election to a second full-term as the Arizona Congressional District 2 U.S. Representative.
Steele is a former State Representative for District 9 in the Tucson area, elected twice since 2012 before she resigned last year to pursue the campaign for Congress on a full-time basis. Dr. Heinz is also a former state legislator, elected to the House in 2008 and again in 2010.
