U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman has said Republicans have a clear choice for their U.S. Senate candidate.
U.S. Rep. Todd Young, Stutzmans opponent in the May 3 primary election, is more than happy to go down that road.
The candidates, their supporters and surrogates have spent recent months highlighting the differences between the two.
Stutzman, R-3rd, is a farmer; Young, R-9th, is a former Marine.
Stutzman is portrayed as fighting a broken system on Capitol Hill; Young is depicted as working within the system to advance legislation.
Stutzman receives higher ratings from conservative advocacy groups; Young already has defeated Democratic Senate candidate Baron Hill in a House election.
But then the choice becomes less clear. Stutzman and Young sometimes can seem as much alike as they try to be different.
Each was first elected to the House in 2010, riding the initial wave of tea party anger at the federal government as Republicans took back control of the chamber from Democrats.
Stutzman and Young are pro-military and pro-gun, anti-regulation and anti-abortion. Both have voted frequently to repeal the federal Affordable Care Act. Neither will say whom he supports for the GOP presidential nomination.
They sit on committees that deal largely with fiscal matters. Young is a member of the Ways and Means Committee, while Stutzman is on the Budget Committee as well as the Financial Services Committee.

Stutzman for Senate!! Not another McConnell stooge!
Exactly!
McC stooges always seem to prevail one way or another. And IN is right next to Mitchland.
Stutzman is the clear choice here. We don’t need another McConnell bootlicker.
