I’ve been told if you go to a European city now to not keep a wallet on you and never in your back pocket. Best to have a money belt.
I haven’t been lately and have no plans to. Maybe Scotland. I wanted to go back to Germany and that is not looking likely.
TBH, that’s always been good advice. For both the US and Europe. If you carry a wallet, put it in a front pocket, inside a jacket/top or as you say a money belt.
Despite the fears, Europe is still fine, still safe and still lovely. And yes, come back to Scotland! LOL. I would be happy to answer any Scotland/UK/Ireland question you have. Or European.
Germany is fine, again, the press might give an impression of a nation under siege, but Germany is still the Germany it was.

Pickpockets have been a problem for a very long time.
I remember as a child (my mother is French and we went to Europe many times) my mother telling me to watch out for the ‘North Africans’ on the metro in Paris, as she said many are pickpockets.
